i'm thinking of getting dstv if only for the rugby

anyone know of any package deals like the std decorder with free installation for 499 or 599, or a pvr with free installation

pnp had an installation voucher for pvr for 999, which seems very excessive as the pvr was selling for 1399

[slightly off topic]

OR, and this is a big OR

does anyone have a free installation voucher laying around, then i can do the hd pvr without the recoding/pvr function as read on the HD PVR 2 P - single lnb installation

To install dstv yourself is not that a big deal. just check in which direction your neighbors dish is pointing and point yours in the same then when you hook up the decoder and you go to the information menu you will see signal strength etc. then you just have someone inside watching that while you turn till you have the best signal.

I've installed my pvr with extra view to the bedroom all by myself. Done installations for a few friends and family as well.

Not worth paying someone a few hundred rand for something you actually can just do yourself.

You're going to be paying almost R700 a month for rugby?

Here are a few (less dumber) suggestions for spending that amount of money:

a) Use that money, get a nice LCD HD TV (if you don't already have one) hook up your uncapped MWEB account on there and stream the games via Supersport's website

b) Take the R700, whenever a game is going to be showing, visit your local sports bar. Use the R700 for booze and snacks

c) Tell yourself there is no game called Rugby, take the R700 and put it towards your pension

d) any or all of the above

e) don't get DSTV

f) see (e)

g) all of the above excluding (f)

h) see (a)

...

dont u need an monochoice account to stream from the website?

MWEB and Multichoice is owned by the same company, and that was one of their sales pitches when they first launched, that you could access the content with your uncapped MWEB account cause you're their customer... has that changed? or haven't you really tried?

Is this for real ?

I have an uncapped Mweb account and have been watching rugby on my matchbox size screen via the Drifter.

Now you're saying I can stream it to the plasma ?

All you need in order to watch the video stream is:
To be a DStv Premium subscriber in South Africa or the rest of Africa
To have your smart-card number (from the card in your decoder) in order to register
Be physically at a computer in sub-Saharan Africa (you cannot watch from an international destination)

No mention of a freebie if you are a Mweb uncapped user ?

Were you able to stream or to watch highlights?
IIRC I was asked to put in my smartcard number in order to stream live sports.

i watched everything, Soccer/Rugby/Cricket (whatever SS was streaming). I registered on SS website when they use to have the Fantasy leagues, then i just used those details and it worked.

Well I was also thinking of getting DSTV and have it active for +- 2 months, mostly because for those 2 months I don't want to watch the Rugby at a BAR, because I need to stay away from alcohol for 2 months (don't ask, Doctor's orders :P). It will be much easier doing it while at home instead of at a BAR.

been doing the going to a bar thing, it actually gets pretty expensive as i don't pay for 1 but for 2 (my gf is a big rugby fan as well), remember it is 4 weekends a month

i have a samsung plasma already - although i am thinking of upgrading very soon, and my internet is via hellkom

another random

...someone mentioned a drifta - can i buy one and add it my parents premium dstv (it's free then right...the monthly fee), and use it to watch rugby on my pc

Is it really R700 per month now?

You can get some pretty cool stuff for 700/mth...

If you enjoy watching a fuzzy image smaller than an iPad.

Get your parents to register on DStv.com and use their login details. Rather stream through website than watch on Drifta.

Regarding the Mweb user + DStv streaming.....
Mweb never said that because you are a Mweb user, you can stream from DStv.com without being a DStv subscriber...
At that time Mweb/Multichoice said that they will only allow subscribers to use certain ISP's to stream from their website.
The decision was made to ensure the best experience for the end user.
Mweb was busy with their free peering campaign. Now that most (if not all) ISP's is freely peering with Mweb, most (if not all) ISP's is supported by the Multichoice website.
