Getting DStv

Haha, Acidrazor, I was replying to andres101's post from page 1:

"lol! F1 is much more entertaining than Tennis/Golf. Sure it's a nice sport to play, but definately not a spectaters sport."

F1 is about as entertaining as watching long distance running. Well, perhaps if the runners made "vooom vrrrooooooom, niaaaaaaaaam!" noises while running. I suppose that would be pretty entertaining.

I recently started looking up all the movies in the DSTV guide that I am interested in on imdb.com This really works. I record all movies with a rating above 7 or so. This month there was about 9 movies I watched. They were all very worthwhile to excellent. This way you seperate the 85% crap from the 15% good stuff.

And yes, the French Open rocks!

I'm not sure DSTV is worth the money. We've had it for a short time and already I'm getting annoyed with the repeats. We spend very little time watching the movies. They all seem fairly old and seem to have been selected for their cast's racial identity rather than their overall quality.

You can save money by getting a movie guidebook that's a few years old because NONE of the shows are new.

I enjoy the documentaries though!

Yeah, IMDB is an awesome resource, I always use it when I see a movie.

Hey Ajax, French Open or Grand Prix? Choose your DESTINY!

Imo, tennis can be one of the most entertaining sports, look at last year's US Open match, Federa vs Agassi, omg, it was like a frikkin' epic war movie, like the Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader, etc.
Hmmm not sure I'd call 2 people hitting a ball back and forth to each other entertaining or an epic battle. On the other hand if they could take turns to hit each other with the tennis racquet, now that would be entertainment! :D

If you have a tivo it merges the ratings with the dstv schedule very easy to record only highly rated movies then...

Makes you think one day we'll truly realise the star trek dream and have no currency and eat hologram food.

Or not.

I dont think we will be getting DStv if we have to get a new radiator for the car. Luckily the engine never blew otherwise we would have to get a new car altogether

i still think the the DSTV sub is too expensive. for what you are getting its a lot of money!
Yes it is!

There are only about 5 or 6 good channels to watch( not counting the 1000 supersport channels ;)) and for 420 bucks u could rent a whole lot of videos from a video store or with a bit more money download more than 90 gigs of stuff with 3 IS accounts...

But yes, it is way better than SABC and E... :)

How can you compare tennis to golf?

Imo, tennis can be one of the most entertaining sports, look at last year's US Open match, Federa vs Agassi, omg, it was like a frikkin' epic war movie, like the Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader, etc.

When you get involved in a great tennis match, it reaches the pinnacle of sport entertainment.

Golf, pffft!
Golf can be exciting when Tiger's on form and being chased down by one of the other "big 5", well, big 6 now that Ernie's dropped another one back.

DSTV is a rip off. Comparativley speaking, we are getting a much worse deal than any other country with a non-multichoice Satellite or Cable offering.

Slightly off topic, but...

Does anyone know if the s-video output (via scart) on the dual-view decoder gives a much better picture that the normal composite output?

I only want single view, but I'd like the best picture quality... So I'm trying to decide if its worth getting a dual-view decoder for the s-viedo output

DSTV is not cheap

It does not amount to value for money.

I only watch History Channel, Discovery, Top Gear (on BBC) and SuperGolf. The movies are dreadful for the most part.

The kids drive me up the wall with Cartoon Channel and the wife only watches the Property Channel all weekend.

All this for only R400 pm. Wow!

True kingmonty, golf can have extremely tense moments which can make it transcend from an enthusiast driven sport to something more mainstream, but imo it does not compare to ATP tennis in terms of consistent entertainment, like if you watching a major final, or a match between 2 great players, you KNOW you're gonna see some wondrous action!
