That's what I do :D also get dumbbells, you can do various exercises with them

Lol read thread have weights,

Dumbell, Barbell, pull up bar, and now was given a stepper for free. Now I need a bench.... and maybe a treadmill

Walk the dog. Walk the dog more. Walk to the shops. Go swimming. All free exercise

Convict conditioning is what I am using, 30 minute workout twice a week in my home with no equipment required.

I have actually seen better results with this than gym sessions.

I have the e-book if you want a copy, let me know

It revolves around your basic calisthenics and is very simple to start, its also a very safe way to workout

That sounds interesting, could you send it to me?

I will mediafire it when I get home this evening.

Its a full book + a workout regime.

Book basically tells the story of how the workout was created and why gyms and supplements are dumb, very good read, also very motivating

If you want something that works you need to reduce all possible distraction and all possible things you can use as excuses.

Joining the gym will not get you fit because you'll think of excuses not to go there. Buying fancy exercise machines won't get you fit because you'll think of reasons not to use them.

Start by walking 3km a day and worked up from there, increase the distance and start running in between. DO NOT SKIP A DAY. You need to hold yourself accountable here. Remember that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. If you really put your mind to it you'll be very happy with the results.

Two years ago I was 120kg and the only thing that worked for me was walking. Within 3 months of starting I did my first 10k race (ran all of it) and after 5 months I did my first half marathon. After 6 months I lost a third of my weight by combining my exercise with a energy controlled diet. Now not a day goes by that I do some sort of exercise and weekends I usually take part in some or other cycling/running event - its a lifestyle change and it really is worth the effort.

The gym is actually the only thing that works for me. I figure I'm paying for it so I might as well use it.

How long have you been a member?

Well...been gymming now for 6 years on and off. I go 'off' when I decide to try something else and back 'on' again when I realize I suck at other kinds of self-motivated exercise. Gym works for me. I do cardio though at the gym, just mix it up with weights.

I guess it has to do with what you want to achieve at the end of the day. If you want to have a buff bod then the gym is probably your best bet, which according to the OP is what you want. On the other hand if you want to run marathons, do long distance rides and take part in challenging trail events you're probably better off without gym.

What kind of endurance or stamina do you gain from non-cardio? Have not looked into it, am I missing something?

Not sure - but I could cycle 50km a day fairly easy when I attempted it earlier this year to work and back everyday.... I can also run a sub 30min 5km with relative ease.

Having a buff bod is not at all my motive for gymming rather than any other kind of outdoors exercise. I simply don't have time for outdoors stuff, tbh - I leave the house before 6, get home around 5:30, and have a family to take care of. The gym works for my schedule. And I find it gives a much more rounded, compacted workout than running outdoors - all levels of physical fitness vs just stamina; believe it or not weights are a crucial part of a balanced healthy regime. But as for stamina; if you can do 15 minutes @ 13km/hr on a treadmill I'll be quite impressed.

Thanks would appreciate it.
