< rant>

Been a while since I been here, may as well come say hi and bitch & moan a bit while I am at it.

I am getting really gatvol of iburst.

Last week, my connection died, like died, and this was on the 1st, after the cap refresh.

Not even a wbs site could open, although if I restarted the connection, it would take almost a minute to connect then if I quickly tried to open a site it may open, albeit slowly.

The wbs site took nearly 40 minutes to open.

I managed to get someone to download new drivers for me and the firmware, after updating drivers and firmware I was still experiencing the problem.

I was told by Thato that its more than likely a problem on my side, even though I tried connecting from 2 different machines, 4 different OS's and 3 different browsers.

after spending almost 2 hours in total on the phone with them, speaking to various people, I was told that they would send someone out to reboot the base station.

needless to say this never happened. Again I was told by the helpdesk that the problem was on my side.

(oh and I got the standard "Have you adjusted your MTU?" routine)

the really strange thing was that my neighbor who has a PCI modem was experiencing the exact same problem on his laptop, although if he drove to RoseBank he would connect fine, just not from the Linksfield area where we live.

I got countless "give me your number and I will call you back" and "We'll send out someone to your area today" routines neither of which happened, forcing me to stay on hold on their lines with my prepaid cell phone (if I had a friggin telkom line I would have ADSL too!)

Then all of a sardine , 4 days later, yes 4 ****ing days, the problem dissapears.

This absolutely blows, I was 4 days late on a project. and I did not even get an apology for their stupidness.

They need to wise up, and my suggestion for anyone wanting to get this service is DON'T!

Rather support telkom because by God I had no idea that there was anything worse than telkom.

And the next time I have a problem and they tell me to adjust my MTU, I am going to drive to radiopark and beat up someone with a crowbar

Freaking AMEN!!! I just sat today wasting 3hours, and the final answere i got was "U need to adjust your MTU setting" WTF! Im sure it isnt my MTU because i was downloading 100kb/s yesterday and the day before that and so on, and NOW its my MTU! WTF! did they even go to school!?

I've sold my laptop iBurst modem to my boss, sent a fax to iBurst to inform them that I've sold it and that my boss wants to use the modem & needed an account to be opened for her.

Also included the serial number, UTID, and told them that my boss would be using my old modem, all explained CLEARLY in the fax - guess what?

They sent her a new iBurst laptop modem, wants her to pay R1800 and still havent' connected her to the network.

'Pay peanuts & you get monkey.'

Can I get the names of the idiots that you dealt with at iBust? I would like to not to deal with them if i get a problem.

Um. dude how the hell must they know what you did the day before or who you are? hey dont know if you are some idiot running XP home with IE 5 and you havent changed your MTU. So they check out crap like that with everyone.

What was your problem anyway... probably justa network problem or was there a answer to it?

If they have a problem at their side of the connection they must appologise and fix it not try blame the customer you cannot tell me they cannot tell if they are having problems or not they should be monitoring their tower i often have 1hour of 100mb/s then 1hour of less then 5mb/s with same signal and framerate.

Ja, true sorry... But I take it as a given that they will never get that right, they have no idea when their towers are down. Unless its a huge faliure.

You do mean KB/s right? I dont get that too often, but it does happen, you'll find that usually a reboot of the modem will fix it, and that is juts your IP. Probably not their tower from what I understand. Often if I am having a problem like that then friends on the same tower will be going full speed as usual.

Lol sorry yeah i mean kb/s, i think with the bandwidth restrictions in this country 100mb/s would be more of a curse than a blessing:P my connection today has been very off this morning was getting ok speeds not sure exactly did not check but browsing went fast and at about +- 3 it just died now i am getting pathetic speeds it is taking about 3mins to open a simple page lol.

So next time it happens try reseting your UTD, it should do the trick.

Pathetic that it is neccesary, but hopefully it helps. 3 mins to open a page is a problem shurley, speeds cant just be that bad.

I used to get problems like that more a while ago, dont know what they did but i havent really noticed any slow downs like that for months. Maby CPT got a upgrade? It seems Iburst is better in CPT anyway, we get rapidshare at least.

1. Is your computer plugged in
2. Have you turned it on
3. Have you logged in
4. Have you opened Internet Explorer (the big blue E icon)
5. Have you tried dealing with someone from IBurst who:
a) Takes pride in their work
b) Tries to resolve your problem using their intellect
c) Has some grasp of the technology and its application
d) Can write your phone number down correctly

If you answered yes to all these questions, then you're screwed.

Please call again.

hmmm try this next time rush... phone iburst... tell them that you see smoke rising from the BS... lets see how long it'll take for their techie to get there...

the thing is if you were with teleskum your call would be ignored until they get 200 people complaining, 1 FULL PAGE AD spread in all newspapers about your issues being ignored. before they give a damn...

another suggestion is to take a drive driectly to iburst offices and DRAG a techie over kicking and screaming to check the issue.
