Getting info from panelbeater

A friend purchased a car and is the legal owner of this car. On buying the car he knew it had an accident.

So the issue is this...

the panel beater that did the repair are refusing to release information around the repair and costs to him as he was not the panel shops client, even though he is the legal owner of the car. How can he get information around the repair from the panel beater legally? The owner who repaired the car is not being cooperative and basically just not getting back to him... Think he is just not interested now that he has sold the car to this friend of mine

I don't think he has any right to it. Who paid for the repairs, client or client's insurance. Maybe insurance will be more helpful. Maybe you can pull one of those online reports if it was covered by insurance.

The costs involved are seen as a private transaction between the client and company.
AFAIK, The nature of the repairs done on the vehicle should be made available to the new owner if the panel shop gave a guarantee on the work, and it still falls within the time frame.

You can also contact for more exact advice.

Panel shop says yes their work carries a warranty but they cannot give me any info in terms of what was repaired and I should never contact them again... Serious no lie, that's their response

Ok, depending on who owns the vehicle now.

The panel shop should at the very least give the info on what was repaired, they do not have to disclose the price for the work though.

+1

Can you not run the VIN at a dealer to see what exactly went on?

Ask the dealer/agent/sales consultant if they can get you a copy on the work done. Normally they would release such information for a fee or if they have it scanned into their system.

I had an issue with a vehicle I bought on auction upon going to the dealer they did mention the car was involved in a car accident and they used an accredited panel beater, sent the car back in cause the job wasn't done properly and the vehicle never came right.
