Hi.
It took me three days to get my ADSL installed [Amazing if you got connections]

For the first 3 weeks we were online with a nice download speed of 39KB or so.

We subscribed for 192K connection but for the first three weeks we were downloading at an amazing 39kb.

Then one evening a lightning storm came round and so pulled all the cables out the walls as so things dont start to smell like smoke.

And now we download at a maximum 19KB.

Why is this?

Is it because when i unpluged things the connection reset itself or suming?
Im not to sure why but the speeds suck big time.

Is ther any way to get my faster internet connection back?
The router in the config stuff says we are connected at a faster speeds and all shows that we should be downloading at speeds of 39K but it is not happening.

Any suggestions on how i can get it back?
I cant stand these slow downloads after coming down.

The connection will drop once every 24 hours anyway, so I doubt it's because you disconnected it. On the 192 line, 19-21k is the normal range. I've read of telkom taking a while to set the line speed, it may just have been that. The only way to get back up to 39k a sec would be to upgrade to the 392k line.

I saw how this Telescum guy installed our ADSL he did some cable changing and some playing with the box against the wall.

I wander what would happen if i played around with it?

Is it legal?
Any idea where to find out if it is?
I can always change my connection to what it was if it`s not mentioned.

Google for tutorials.
 
Look your modem might connect at a faster speed than the line speed you are paying for, they then just speed limit your line to what you have ordered.

Example: My modem says its connected at 2048kbit down and 512kbit up, but really my downspeed is limited to 512k because that is what line I have...

In other words, they limit the speed by software, it probably just took telkom 3 weeks before they have set the correct speed on your line...
 
so how can you upgrade this software?

it would be funny if we could download a crack that lets us get 512 for the price of 192
 
its all done at the dslam, you could easily change your speed if you could walk into the exchange and manipulate your assigned card :)
 
have your adsl line tested dude. I have seen wierd things happen to adsl lines when they have been fried.
 
your all missing the point here really, he is paying for 192k and getting 19k/s , nothing wrong there.

I recon the lightning and slower speed is co-incidental, telkom just capped his line speed to what he is paying, finally.
 
Yes, most initial ADSL installations go in at some arbitrary configured speed, and then, a few days later, some telkom techie gets around to configuring the dslam to throttle you down to less.
