Getting It Tomorrow

well, learned already in the past, its best to phone companies like telkom EARLY - be one of the first calls of the day, so you're talking to relatively wide awake humans, as opposed to mindless zombie-scum, which is what you become after 4 hours of nonstop complaints..
so phoned at 7.59am, no info on system as to why techie didnt pitch, its been noted and escalated - so someones in for a big spanking.. Got a number at helpdesk, when asking for 'Badu' as noone suggested, for someone else, a cape town number I think, called 'nur' - whose on leave, dont know his job description, but the guy whose replacing him currently, took info, said he'll light a fire under the local technician station, and have the area techie call me, and will also call me back by 11am to followup to check what's the latest..

Hmm, this is all suggesting to me, that maybe a sticky, showing all of these different steps and 'followup' routes, with numbers, for getting adsl/or dealing with the different stages of messups - might be a useful thing - as I'd guess almost everything I'm asking, has been asked before by other n00b adsl guys.
Maybe a sticky containing titled FAQ info's with following titles, might reduce the duplication of questions that I guess are coming every time there's a new ADSL arrival:
"What to know and How To Get ADSL"
"What to Do and Who To Call When ADSL Installation Doesnt Happen" (area-specific)
"What You Should Know To Have/Ask for from The ADSL Techie"
"A n00b Guide to How To Set Up Your Modem Thing for ADSL"
"Things To Be Aware of from Telkom - first month surprises." (credit limit, costs etc)
"Why Its Uncool to Point and Laugh at your forum friends Still With that Other ISP You Left."
etc..
Just a thought? Coz as far as I can tell, these above seem to be more or less the basic hurdles, after which it mostly just 'works'. Anyhow. Back to waiting..

Another thing LGM - maybe useful, maybe not - try and find out exactly where your line goes to in terms of cabling / cable boxes and finally, into one of the larger boxes on street corners.

The trouble I had a few weeks after installation I managed to solve quickly, being able to talk past the BS telkom were giving me and indicating exactly where the problem was, simply because I'd seen Teklom techies working up a pole that I could clearly see hooked into my area.

Of course, knowing where I'm connected can give me near heart attacks when I see Teklom vans parked next to the areas my line hooks into, with cables spewing out of various boxes ;)

In terms of billing, don't bother about the email billing they send through and the login page - it's always out of date, at least, for me it is. However, you can pay your Phone bill online, as you know. I haven't tried this yet, worried about a Telkom stuff up, but my brother always pays online and he hasn't had any issues yet.

Besides, I get a kick out of standing in a Telkom shop listening to all the shouting, crying, laughing and murder ! :D
