I was about to email iBurst when it occurred to me that there might be other users with the same issue.

Ok, so today I decided to look at RICA.

The PDF leaflet about RICA contains all the information except an email address where you can contact iBurst. There is a link that reads "... to locate a store closest to you, visit ..." but it takes you back to the RICA pdf file.

Then I searched for a reseller in Cape Town. At Alien Digital Ambition (Pty) Ltd the phone just rang. No answer.

Then I tried Broadband Express. The lady first told me that RICA is only for cell phones. Then she offered iBurst's Help number.

Would you mind to tell me how do I get RICA compliant from Cape Town please?

Regards

Any requests for important details to be emailed (etc) back in the mail? Might be some sort of shoddy scam if so..............and if not I've got no idea as it's the first I've heard of this.

Is RICA required for Iburst seeing that there is no sim card or cell number involved? I dont think so. Anyone that can confirm this? Perhaps Iburst representative?

Please let me come back to you with ratified info.

Thanks

Basjohn: About 2 years ago I received an email from iBurst asking me to verify my banking details, yip. Not on, I told the sender. He responded with some story. The email looked legitimate, but I just ignored it. At the time I felt the debit orders are going through, no need to verify it.

With reference to RICA leaflet, I thought publishing an email address on the pdf specifically for enquiries about RICA might be helpful. I didn't mean an email to submit the documents to.

ocleroux: it is my understanding that data cards must also be RICA compliant. But we will await Shaun's response. Thank you.

Those would be 3G simcards and not iBurst wireless modems. Otherwise dialup access, wireless, WiMax, WiFi and DSL connections all need to be RICA verified to - and what will they verify - without a static IP address?
Link what to what?

Link people's PC's MAC addresses to RICA profiles?
Link iBurst UTID numbers to RICA profiles?

Morning all

All customers, new and old, will need to get RICA verified.

I am awaiting official methods of getting said done.

I will post when I have these.

Thank you for clarifying the matter Shaun.

Once you know the official method, please inform your resellers accordingly ... that's if they will be authorised to do the compliance.

Gcebile, have you posted info on RICA yet. My apologies if I have overlooked it on the forum. I am on Wireless2. Do we also have to register, as you just mentioned that all customers will need to get RICA verified, but did not specify which customers.

Thanks very much.

The RICA process (on CellC) was quick and painless - I went to the CellC shop in Menlyn Park, gave them my ID and utility bill, they put my information on their system, and a feew minutes later I got an SMS from CellC to say that I've been RICA'd successfully.

Dunno how the iBurst experience will be... good luck with that.

Are we there yet?

When I got notice just now about this thread, and the way it has been handled, I couldn't help to wonder: are we there yet? (Like ol' Shrek Donkey)

That form has been available since 1 Oct 09, in fact, it was attached to one of my posts - 3+ months ago. The only progress has been confirmation that all iBurst customers must indeed become Rica compliant.

My questions remain:
- where do I take the documents?
- does your agents (in Cape Town for example) know about this process?

Bierrie,
I have escalated the query to the customer services manager to clarify your query about who can complete this process for you in Cape Town.

Bierrie,
The feedback is that we will have the ability to assist people at physical locations by March. In the mean time you can optionally post copies of the required documents to:
Head: iBurst RICA
PO Box 651921
Benmore 2010

Post? Have you guys ever heard of a scanner and something called email?

Oh my word. This is so stupid. So even internet has to be RICA'ed? What stupidity.

I'm with MWEB. I will not provide iBurst any personal details.

So I assume getting RICA'd applies to all ISPs? This is news to me .

RICA registrations?

If my understanding is correct, iBurst would fall under RICA.

Will the RICA registration be automatic or do we have to do something?
