Getting rid of the Telkom HTTP cache for unshaped users

I am appalled to see that even for unshaped accounts, Telkom still caches the HTTP requests ...

Is there nothing we can do about ? I want an uncached un-proxied port 80 connection !! and I thought that by subscribing to UNSHAPED this would be the case.

It also seems that this ugly Telkom cache messes up with some european sites, when it comes to entering these sites with a username and password. Some of my customers who want to access their webmail are blocked at the validation point. It behaves as if it would cycle on the login page, even with correct validation. When used on a SSH tunnelling to a european server, it works perfectly.

Tell me about it, my site in the UK at certain times of the month when I'm not going through the right proxy cycles a bunch.

same problem here , i cannot download any files from 1 specific site because of the Cache issue , using Cybersmart , all they say is get an UNSHAPED ACCOUNT / blame TELKOM , is there any way around this problem ,

Yeah, have experianced this before as well. I was browsing a very frequently updated site (digg) on my cellphone, and wanted to have a better look at it on my pc, and when I loaded up the page on my pc, it didn't display the latest article like my cellphone did

Breaks rapidshare too. Sites could easily fix the problem by just running them on port 81 in addition to 80, but no... bah.

perhaps this may help, but i always found holding down (was it ctrl or left shift) and tapping f5 to refresh at the same time actually send a message and forces an uncached version of the page to be loaded.

Must agree though - I would pay unshaped kind of prices for and a un-proxied service (even if it was shaped).

Don't think there is much the reseller ISP's could do about this - think its going to have to come from IS or Verizon....

No, of course not, but transparent proxying isn't unique to SA and it'd be nice if they'd offer a workaround (besides "pay for premium").

Telkom: "You can have an unproxied connection ... when you pry it from our cold dead fingers!" (this seems like something Clint Eastwood should have said; that gravelly voice would have suited it perfectly)
