Getting Strange calls after downloading content

I was thinking of re installing windows when i get home this afternoon.
 
It's a scam, they'll continue to phone even though you don't download anything. It's impossible for them to get your number

I am still trying to figure out if you are trolling.

But if this highly unlikely situation is what you say it is then you can rest assured that you are safe. Those letters that you receive etc are good and well but its not enforceable in South Africa so the next time you get a call you can laugh at them.

No ISP in South Africa is allowed to monitor your browsing or intercept any traffic as per ICT Laws although they still do it until that one day they get taken to court.

I still think you are trolling or on crack because they cannot trace your connection back to your phone number and on top of that threaten you ? Go and make a case of harasment at the cops and give them the number :)
 
No trolling. I was with Afrihost and they gave my details to some international copyright protection company. They also banned my account. Needless to say I haven't really downloaded any movies/series again...

How is the internet in Madagascar?;). I used isohunt. Does it really make a difference?
 
I have never used the internet in Madagascar. Nice place to visit though. The south is pretty primitive, poor roads, not much infrastructure. Been there twice. Not a place to live though.
 
I have gotten calls before from an Indian gentleman (like from Indian with probably the bopping head n all).

Normally I am in front of my machine also downloading stuff & my house phone will ring. This guy then tells me that I am using a laptop with Windows 7 professional on it & that I am downloading a lot of content & that in some of this content was a malicious virus & that he has been tasked to clean it for me.

He then tells me that I need to give him access to my machine for him to do it. The first time I swore at him & I threatened him. Since my line downloads 24/7 he called my house during the day when only the nanny & my son are home. She tells me this when I get home.

So the last time he called (2 weeks ago) I kept him on the line for as long as possible & wasted as much of his time as possible.

How does he know I am using a laptop?
How does he know I am using Win 7 professional?
How did he get my home number?
How does he know I download so much data?

Probably a guess based on world wide usage trends - i.e. 7/10 times he gets it right... and a lot of data is open to intepretation... I don't think 250Gb is a lot, my mom thinks 1gb is a lot.
