Busy trying to get aircon installed, and I'm getting different opinions on sizes from installers. From what I've read it's important to not go too big since it will impact the aircon's ability to de-humidify the room, however, the installers I've spoken to suggest getting a 12,000 BTU for my room, whereas I think a 9,000 BTU should work fine? Are they just upselling or is there a valid point?

So it's the Main Bed room below, which is about 11 sqm. It's west facing so only gets direct sun late afternoon. There's a 2 sqm en-suite, but there is a glass door. It's also worth noting that the bedroom door is likely to be left open, which will degrade the aircon's performance, but the aircon will be over the bed facing the bathroom, so don't think it will be major.

I was thinking of getting the Daikin Sensira 9,000 BTU - https://acdirect.co.za/product/daik...ll-split-9000-btu-hr-inverter-air-conditioner

Any advice?

One q, the 11sqm, that includes the area where the door and built in cupboards are..? Or is 11sqm purely the area where the bed is..?

It includes both areas. So where the bed is it’s only 8 sqm, and then the short passage by the BICs is 3 sqm, giving the full 11 sqm.

In that case, you should be pretty good with 9000btu.. it can handle up to 18sqm, even with the en-suite you are still within that limit..

My master bedroom is on the cusp of what is acceptable for 12000btu, gets son about 12 hours a day in summer and manages to cool the room within 10 minutes or so to ice cool on the blistering hot heatwave days we had recently..

9000 should be fine, thats a similar size to my bedroom and our older Daikin 9000BTU handles it easily. Last time I checked there was a minimal price difference between a 9000 and a 12000 however. Some brands your talking about R 500.

I just checked, the price difference is R500. If the door's going to be open most of the time anyway, the de-humidification wont be a concern.
