Hey all,

I want to change my setup a bit at home. My plan is to connect my PC to the TV, and then have a wireless keyboard and mouse. Im a bit clueless with this sort of stuff so maybe you guys can help. What do I need to set this up?

My video card has a TV-Out port (GeForce 7950 GT), and ive got a very short tv out cable. So ill just go buy a longer one, or a connector to make it longer, thats not a problem.

With the wireless stuff,...my computer doesn't have wireless, is there some kind of usb thing I can buy to enable a wireless keyboard and mouse? Or is that not possible because my pc doesn't have wireless?

If you can point me in the directions of some good, and reasonably priced options id appreciate it.

Ill look into getting a wireless router later, so I can use that for both my laptop and desktop. For now, all I want is to be able to sit on the couch, and play games, surf the net etc, on my big screen tv :)

Also, once ive got this setup, how do I display my computer screen on the tv? Sorry, I know this is a really stupid question. On my laptop there's a button to press so the screen jumps over to an overhead projector or whatever is plugged in,...but my desktop doesn't have that. Feel free to laugh away at my rediculous questions :)

Thanks

Wrt the wireless keybpoard and mouse... surely it came with a USB receiver? I know my mouse came with one but maybe im missing something.

As for outputing to TV.... been a while since i had a desktop but when i did have it, there was a tv out on the card. Afaik you just switch your tv to AV and it will display.

I dont have a wireless keyboard or mouse yet. That's why im asking what I need to buy. But as you mentioned, it will come with a usb receiver,..cool thanks,...that's the part that I didn't know :)

Ya .. W/less mouse + Keyboard has USB Receiver.
I use the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 ... I find the Microsoft keyboards the comfiest ... and there are a ton of shortcut keys. If you aren't on a budget though ... the Logitech DiNovo Edge is a nice keyboard to go for ... only rechargeable keyboard out there AFAIK ... and then get yourself a nice rechargeable Logitech mouse. Only *** thing about this Microsoft desktop set I got is nothing is rechargeable.

ITO outputting to TV ... the TV out on your gfx card will only output in I think 640x480, if not then less ... text is practically illegible and so is trying to do anything at normal PC res ... the only thing it is really good for is watching DVD's because those are the right res for the TV.

If you have a Plasma or LCD, rather use the VGA inputs on them.

As long as you have a USB port the keyboard & mice will be fine. I'd suggest getting a set that uses pen-light batteries and then grabbing a penlight rechargeables(AA)+recharger kit. That way you are not stuck with some proprietary battery format that the keyboard manufacturer likes.

Keyboard doesn't use a lot of bat...but the mouse will so it makes sense to definetly go rechargeable there.

TV output can usually be pushed up to 800x600...which is about the same as you'd get on DSTV...but it will look rubbish if you have a major widescreen LCD.

If you are using a CRT though ... TV output is waste of time unless it is exclusively for movies ... not sure about the old Sony 100Hz TV's though ...

Thanks for the replies. Well that kind of bursts my bubble a bit. The main plan was to be able to play pc games on the tv while sitting on the couch about 2 metres away,...but with that kind of res, it's not going to be worth it / possible :(

I guess if I really want to do that,...then ill have to invest in a bigger and better monitor for my pc. Way more expensive I presume :(

Its a Sony CRT TV by the way.

Hook it up to the TV and see if the quality is OK for you. I toyed around with it and decided its not sufficiently clear for my purposes (text is all fuzzy).

Also depends on the game. Racing games should work...strategy and first person shooter not so much.

Ya ... what Havoc said ... but it is nice for watching movies ... alternatively ... sell the TV and buy a Tuner and 22" ... get a good tuner though ... with onboard memory and onboard encoding.
