Gfx card to upgrade old system

@ponder, true. MSI mobo is entry level but nothing wrong with it. I went with the Asus H97M-E to get some extras it had over the MSI.

Will probably sell my old quad core with case, ram, mobo & psu once the new system is built.

Yes it's entry level but will do for the requirements of most people. The OP currently has a G31 MB which is also entry level so I doubt he'll miss any higher end features.

Years ago I got a fsck expensive high end MB because of 'nice features' and all that stuff, never made use of the features :D After that I decided to stick to budget boards and pump the savings into more important things like cpu/gpu.
 
Agreed. If more patient and budget conscious i could have spent 1.5k less on i5 cpu and the msi mobo.

Good advice. My MSI H61 mobo was entry level at the time but I have never required any more features that it provides.

Agreed on this. Yes it's nice to have Bluetooth built into the board and wifi and and and. But if you have the peripherals laying around already there is no need to buy a premium board tbh. I don't use Bluetooth at all and for wifi I have a nano edimax usb thingy plugged into one of the USB ports always. So budget decent boards are the most cost effective way to do it.
 
If you're not using your PS3, sell it and add it to the R3k. You should easily then be able to get the parts ponder listed plus a PSU

Nooit dude, it's cable or nothing here :D

I have a wifi card lying in the drawer but I refuse to use it, took some time & pt but I ran cables everywhere. Laptop is on wifi but that moves around the house & speed/latency is not an issue.
 
Having completed the assembly of my aforementioned i7-4790 upgrade with 16GB RAM to work with my GTX 570:

I can now say that Rainbug Six Siege runs beautifully smooth now maintaining a consistent 60 fps at 1080p medium detail. This should keep me happy for a while as the sheer speed of the new rig is a thing of beauty :) One day in the future I will upgrade the graphics card too.

Yep, don't buy this gens Nvidia, if you have to buy this gen, go for AMD. Nvidia has to fix their hardware scheduler for Dx12. (future proofing)

Had that for a couple years now :) Crucial M500 240gb SSD. True potential only being reached now with the new mobo. Windows boots up in a few seconds, well I suppose the fresh install helps :p
