For one reason or another keeping a secret stash is tricky when you have to explain yourself to the spouse why you have money they don't know about especially if the declare all the monies they make to you.

OK you're coming from that strange world where you share a bank account with your spouse? I don't get that. I don't know how much money my wife has in her account(s) and she doesn't know how much money I have in my account(s) and we like it that way...

If you find the need to hide money (or anything) from your spouse you're probably in a bad situation already.

My SO and I are the same. We keep our financial affairs separate from each other, and we both like it that way. She could have all the secret accounts she wants, it's none of my business.

My wife and I don't necessarily keep our finances a secret from each other but nor do we need to update each other on how much we have or spend. I pay for things, she pays for other things. I buys things, she buys things. No secrets but neither of us is trying to audit the other's finances either.

We have a budget spreadsheet and we each contribute to bills, investments and any household expenses. Then we're each left with a similar amount that we can do what we like with.
