My dad recently got an iphone 4s which he is loving. Want to get him some gadget for it but not sure what. He has a dock and speakers at home. He has complained a bit about battery so was thinking maybe this...

Kensington SoundWave Power Amplifying Car Mount & Charger

Then he can charge and with the sound amplification he can possibly even answer calls. It's 450 bucks at Rocketshop.

Any other suggestions?

If he's using it a lot as a GPS then that's a good option. Only thing to be aware of with model specific accessories is once you upgrade you need to buy a new cradle. You could get a generic cradle and a charging kit as well, but it might not look as smooth.

If all he wants is more battery time then maybe a case with a built in battery?

Good point re upgrading but this is his first smart phone and he bought it outright so I can see him holding onto it for awhile.

He hasn't gotten into GPS stuff yet (does ios maps have turn by turn?) but I think he will once he's on holiday and can properly learn more about the phone. I think it's more that this ticks a few boxes.

- more battery life
- easier navigation usage
- I assume he'd be able to answer calls a lot easier

Is he planning to stick with the 4S for a while? It's the last model that will use the 30-pin connector.

Nothing wrong with that, BTW. Not planning to turn my 4S in either, but if there's an iPhone 5 in his near future, a dock/cradle would not be the best investment right now.

Yeah, I think he's all in on the 4s for a couple years as long as it doesn't break.

Ended up getting my dad the Tom Tom car kit, which he loves. Only issue is that when answering he has to go to audio source to pick Tom Tom for it to then be amplified. Is there a way for it to use the car kit by default, when docked or paired?
