Sadly, Telkom will offer gigabit fibre everywhere and their backhaul will probably be less than gigabit if the current state of affairs is anything to go by. Saw first hand in Plattekloof: After the fibre trial, 10Mbps ADSL had about 1Mbps throughput at certain times of the day.

lol thats kinda typical hey, its almost like buying a faster car but then the only road available are one lane gravel roads filled with other cars...might as well buy a old Isuzu bakkie !!

Blaming Telkom is unfair. ICASA (government) should be blamed for not providing a platform for creating enough competition to drive prices down, and create healthy independent competition.

Costs about a grand. And yes capped during daytime...just over a hundred gigs. Month to month. Private/residential.

Wish I had some some SA cellphone tech here though. Never realised how good SA is in that regard. Incredibly frustrating to have such patchy & downright unstable data coverage...
