Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT PCIe Cooling.

I have a Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT 256MB PCIe GFX card and would like to know what aftermarket cooler can be used to cool it down. It is a Dual GPU card and has 2 fans on it, but it seems to heat up to 73 degrees celsius when I'm playing a game. (Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142) I've think my main problem is airflow in my case and I think I'll buy the Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 case. Not sure if it will help. Might just be what i need.
I'll add 2 links. The first will be for a picture of my GFX card and the second will be for a picture of the case I want. If someone could give me some kind of advice on cooling for this card I would really appreciate it.

Very nice case that. Should make a differance. I read a few articles about that card and it seems 73degrees aren't that bad, the version without the fan can reach 103 degrees celcius. Eish!
 
I stuck a Zalman type cooler on my card and that dropped the temps quite radically.

Check them out, they're pretty good.

Could you give me a link? I'm not sure if a cooler that was meant for a single GPU card would work on a Double GPU card. Do I even have enough holes on the card to add 2 coolers?

That card is a non-standard, Gigabyte-specific design - as such the GPUs and memory chips are placed in non-standard locations, which almost certainly means that the mounting holes for the HSF will be in non-standard positions. In short, I don't think you'll be able to find a 3rd-party cooling product - whether it be air or water - that will fit your dual 6600GT. (Not to mention that the cooling solution that Gigabyte has implemented is probably very efficient.)

Anyhow, you don't have a temperature problem right now - 73 degrees for that card is pretty good, considering you've got roughly double the components squeezed onto a card only slightly larger than a standard 6600GT.

My advice - leave the card's cooling alone and buy an Aurora570. It'll benefit your entire system, and it will almost certainly be cheaper (and easier) than trying to find a replacement cooler(s) for a very specialized graphics card.

You guys know if there are any relatively decent entry level graphics cards that are under R1500 ?
My card is quite old and I think anything is better at this moment in time.
 
to be honest with you if the airflow is bad adding a cooler is not going to help


sort out your air problem first or take the side cover off when gaming

its super hot at the moment and removing the side case will help alot


do you have an exhaust fan sucking air out from the cpu and north bridge
 
Yes I have an exhuast fan. My room's temp is probably a bit much. I expect things to cool down alot in the winter. heh. I've decided to go for the Aurora 570 and a new PSU. I have a 300W PSU in at the moment. Might be contributing to the heat.

I've downloaded 3DMark06 and ran the test.
I got 1627 3DMARKS
I've read in a previous post that the mark are mostly for your Graphics Card but I wondered if my processor could boost it a bit. I was Wrong.
System Specs:

My card also reaches 75C when I play a game. I run Linux, I sometimes underclock my card when it is very hot. Usually my disks are around 40C. If my CPU reaches 49C I underclock. Silicon shouldnt be hotter than 60C as far as I know, but I think these cards are special. I hope so, would hate to lose my card since I use it not only for games but for rendering the beryl desktop interface. The card idles at 59C.
 
I'm getting my new case this weekend. My cards idle temp is 49 celsius.
I'll just put on some thermal paste. read somewhere about 'Artic Silver'
 
Do you have the correct motherboard for that card? AFAIK that card only works properly with one motherboard, the GA-K8NXP-SLI with special BIOS to make use of the 3D1.

As this point we should mention the biggest limitation of the 3D1. While it uses a standard PCI Express connector, at the moment it will only work in Gigabyte’s own K8NXP-SLI motherboard. This is why the board and card are sold together as a bundle. It’s possible that Gigabyte will update the BIOS's of its boards to work with this card, but it’s unlikely to work with non Gigabyte products. Therefore if you buy this bundle you’re effectively buying into a proprietary Gigabyte solution.

Who sold you that card? It was meant to be in a bundle with that MB.

That 3Dmark06 score is too low for that card, it is meant to complete with a 6800Ultra, which scores quite a bit more.
 
got it from a friend. I'm planning on buying a new one though. 7600gt maybe. just for a start.

7600 GT == 6800Ultra == 6600Gt 3d1 Dual.

If you absolutely have to buy now and are on a budget 7900GS should be minimum to look at, they going for really cheap now also. If you got R3k prophecy has Asus 8800GTS 320MB
 
should i get a new motherboard aswell? one that supports AMD socket AM2.
