Hi Guys

Bought the 6850 round the end of last year.
Everything has been running fine until yesterday when the gfx card kinda just stops running. The fans kick into overdrive n my display goes black.
Ive searched online for similar issues n apparently lotsa ppl have the same prob.
Wondering if there is any solution.
There is no fixed time as to how long my pc runs before it goes bang... it just stops now n again and restarting does not help.

Any help would be appreciated.

His 5870 i have this problem as well audio seems to carry on afterwards, usually happens if i bump my tower. Touch wood it hasnt happened for a while....... I suspect the cards are so big that a slight movement causes that they loose contact in the pcie slot for a second and bang wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr reset. :cry:Try reseat your card maybe update drivers, put your tower where yo cant bump it. I wonder if some sort of a stabliser bracket thingy exists.

Hmmm, my tower is way outta my reach for any bumps or knocks hehe. Busy installing latest bios and drivers to see if it helps... I just dont understand how it can run for random amounts of time... cant be overheating either

Can you test it in another PC?

Probably broken, just take it back to Rectron for swap out.

I am gonna try test it in my mates pc n see if the same issue occurs.
Prob bout swapping it out is my bro brought it over from the UK :S

I had a mate who swapped a hdd out that he purchased while staying in the uk and they did, if they not willing too, write a snotty email to gigabyte saying their supplier are not willing to assist with one their products.

HDD's come from different manufacturers. Seagate is known to swap out HDD's bought in other countries. I'll bet it's a Seagate.

And this is why one shouldn't buy PC parts overseas. Well, some things are fine like CPU and RAM as they tend to fail least often. Unfortunately graphics cards probably fail the most, so not a good idea. :(

At least 6850's are kinda cheap here now - R1,500 or so...

Check how much shipping is back to UK. Probably R500.

Have that same issue (fan spinning up, blank display) on my GTX570. What motherboard are u running if I may ask?

Try taking off the fan power cable and reattaching it. Long shot, but it might be that the fan was switching off every time your case was moved?
