Putting this thread in this sub-forum as I'm looking for hardware currently. Need a AM3+ Motherboard capable of Gigabyte speeds as well as a router that can do the same.
Know this is mainly an Intel forum but looking rather at AMD at the moment. Anyone know of anything really good that I could get?

Looking at Gigabyte lan network as wifi is too slow copying anime from the micro-server (1mb speeds on a 40x500mb files is painful).

What is your budget you looking at?

Firstly, what do you already have?

I'd assume that your current setup already supports 100mb/s ethernet, which should be more than fast enough to stream your anime.

100Mbit is slooow :D They should remove all 100Mbit products from the market, don't know why they still sell the stuff.

I agree that there's a huge difference between 100Mb/s and 1000Mb/s, but 100Mb/s is already a huge step up from the OP's wifi. Since his anime episodes are only 500MB each(so assuming not HD) he should have no problems transferring or streaming them, possibly without buying anything extra.

Agreed.

@OP why are you still using wifi? Your PC should have a working LAN port.

Using wi-fi because I'm staying upstairs at the moment and only the bottom level of the house is wired.
Have a ASUS RT-56U Wifi-router and a Netgear N150 ADSL router at the moment down-stairs. Wifi on the Netgear has been disabled.

Looking at Gigabit because:
1. I assume data transfer from server to the Asus will be a-lot quicker eliminating stuttering when multiple streams are in use (the server isn't the bottle-neck)
2. Will last for quite some time and not that much more expensive compared to 100MB/s.

All the anime is HD content(720p) and so are most of the movies.

Will probably get the switch but would prefer to get a motherboard with a Gigabit network card onboard as I'm upgrading my PC aswell.

A gigabit network would be an improvement over wifi but if you are transferring files within the same office or home then a good external hard drive is going to be faster still.

Shoot me down if you want to but that is what I would use.
If it is streaming you want then you have the answer with the with the nic suggestions above
