Good day Gents,

I need to get myself a slightly more portable laptop and i have stumbled upon a Gigabyte laptop.

The model is Q1585N.

Core i5-430M
2Gb DDR-3 1333
500Gb
nVidia GT 335
15.6" screen.

Most sites have it going for +- R7200.

Is it worth the money? I know specs wise its a very good price, just not sure of the Gigabyte brand :-/.

We use a few gigabytes in my office. No horror stories. To be honest more Dell's kunk out then anything else.

The Dell support technician that came here the other day also said that for every PC callout they have they will get another 10 for the Dell laptops :-/.

Might just order that laptop, my Christmas present to myself :-).

I got a Gigabyte cheapie for my sister.

Was a 13" HD Screen (very nice for the size)
ULV dual core ~1.3Ghz
2GB 800 RAM ~320GB HDD

I was impressed with the build quality. Hinges are solid, keyboard is OK.

The PSU/AC adaptor makes noise audible from 1.5m, which would irritate me, though she is fine with it.

Nice n light.

My only gripe with yours is the 15.6 screen- those dimensions are siff. I need the vertical screen area. Widescreen is one thing, but the 15.6 just seems oddly sized. Some BS about the material used for screens coming in sheets and the most economical way of cutting/dividing it into individual screens. 15.4 is more usable.

What laptop are you coming from? 15.4/15.6 is hardly the most portable...

Thanks! I hope the noise from the power adapter does not happen with all of them. I am very fussy when it comes to noise.
ASUS G73JW-A1
:o 17 inch monster that breaks my back when i carry it in the bag.

I've got a G73 and weight only bothers me when I have other stuff in the bag like my external hard drive.

When i carry it around i usually have clothes and stuff with it. I never move it unless i am going to be at the Girl Friends place for the weekend.

So don't blame the laptop for your clothes being heavy...
