So I recently purchased a GIGABYTE P85-D3 from takealot. The idea was to build a cheap PC for my little brother to play minecraft on. I also purchased a smaller board to make a media center with.

When I received the products and started the build I noticed the boards look different to the images posted on the site:

Seems a whole lot of capacitors are missing and there are less choke's too can you spot the difference ?. Whats even more upsetting when I checked my B85M-HD3 it has the same issue, the board is not as advertised on Takealot.

Feeling kinda ripped off, both boards work but are not as promoted on the site I purchased them from.

Uhm ... notice the revision numbers on the corner of those boards?

Motherboards are revised, usually for the better, and thus you have a revision 2 version while the online images are for the 1st version.

You can always compare the model revisions side-by-side spec wise on the Gigabyte site to see if any short changing has actually occurred.

Yes I did buy on spec, blow is copied from the Takealot site: the main item missing from what I recived is the second BIOS. The images are just to show you the difference in what was posted versus what I recived.

The Gigabyte site states that both revisions have Dual UEFI BIOSes...

You bought a Rev 2 board.. not Rev 1...

This is not Gigabyte that ripped you off. This is you not doing enough research. At worst, Takealot should have an updated product image, but the features are accurate from what I can tell.

oh dear, another "let me join mybb and bitch about how much I've been ripped off because I stuffed up thread"

Lol, guy complains about getting a rev2 board instead of a rev1 board, really?

And he blames Gigabyte, not takelot.

I did contact Takealot, they said they get the info for the product from GIGABYTE via the distributor. At first I did think it was their fault but as posted below they seem to out of this loop and have little control on the info posted on their site. Also to be fair to them they did offer to credit me so I dont think its at all their fault.

GIGABYTE ripped me off

So to summarize.

1.) Gigabyte did not rip you off.

2.) The picture on the Takealot website could maybe have been updated, but the chances are high that they were not aware or informed of this change.

Personally I would have seen that there are 2 versions on Gigabytes website and first confirmed with Takealot as to which revision they were going to be supplying.

Still, they seem like a decent pair of motherboards :)

1. If rev2 is underperfoming he was ripped off

2. Takelot should refund him in good faith if he so wishes, if there is a real difference between what they advertised and what they sold

One lives and one learns it seems...

Pffft... supermarkets cutting down on item quantity for same price with no indication thereof, now trusted PC component manufacturers skimping on components without any clear notification thereof too.

That uk.hardware test seems to indicate a performance hit with the 2.x revision.

If there is definitely no Dual BIOS on these revisions despite being listed on the site as a feature and printed on the actual boards, then this is unforgivable.

Yes, it may seem trivial on lower tier motherboard, but let us not just accept this as a precedent and the new norm.

These changes should be clearly indicated and these omissions should boldly stated.
