Gillette blades 4750% mark-up

Gillette Minora blades. 5 for R10(?). :)

I dont think blades are that expensive. And disposables being as effective'? Please they are junk! They last a few shaves and dont give u as close a shave.

I use Mach3 blades, which come in a pack of 4, and I only change the blade maybe once every 3 weeks cause they stay sharp. Its about R100 for the pack, and that will last me about 2-3 months. Not expensive at all really... even with a 4000% markup.

I prefer shaving with blades, but went electric since its sooo much cheaper. You can buy an electric for R300 and it'll last you for years. Thats the same price as paying for 3 packets of 4 blades.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, R400-R500 a year on blades. Please, as if that'll break the bank for less than R1.40 for a shave a day.

Yip
I posted it in the other thread.

Clicks want R190 for 4 blades!!!
So I know a store that still has old stock, gonna buy atleast 24...

I would actually prefer a brand new blade every 3 days.
Nothing beats that brand new blade feeling (Disposables only).

But, it's over priced, so I scrape it out for as long as possible before changing the blade.

I find using Gillette Gel helps with shaving, I moved from a fusion to a mach 3 as it was cheaper, and finding they last longer.

Agreed, those disposables are utter crap. If you take in to consideration how long a Mach3 blade lasts, and how often you have to buy blades, disposables might end up costing about the same, and the results are not as good. I only shave every 3rd day :o Lucky me. And then after maybe a 2 months, I change blades, and use the old one to shave my nutz. :o

EDIT: Sometimes I find that buying a new razor with 3 blades works out a lot cheaper than just 4 replacement blades.

Wot a silly article. And is it only the Brits that have such a jaundiced view of economics.

Though the blades cost perhaps 5p in raw manufacturing cost, the real cost is quite a lot higher. You have to factor in the development costs, the cost of the extremely expensive manufacturing machinery, marketing cost, and so on. Read one of the many articles on the Razor Wars and see what's at stake.

Also, retail prices are set by the retailer - the blade makers get perhaps 15-20% of the eVAT price, if that.

(By the way, I use an electric clipper to trim to my beard once in a while.)

It is the Daily Mail newspaper. You wouldn't expect anything less from them
