Github - Unlimited Private Respositories With Private Plan

Competition is always good; nothing so wrong with bitbucket or gitlab for that.

Btw not all the new costs are liked; some small orgs are having to rethink their private repositories re the new organization pricing will now cost them > than 20K per month, one reason being that there's no distinction made for read-only private repository users.

I think that a good way for GH to get more people on the GH Private package would be to give every free user access to one private repo - kinda like giving them a taste of what they'd get at $7/month.

Anyways, I use GitLab for my private repos - quite a good system to work with.

So, I am always being told by Bitbucket users that it's so much better than Github because it has free private repositories.

Well now, if you can't fork out $7 pm and enjoy all that Github has to offer along with unlimited private repositories with your personal account then I don't know...

BB Only free for up to 5 users.
Plus I prefer BB because it's the same company that does Jira.

What advantages does Github have over BB? From what I saw in the linked article, they are introducing something us BB free users (up to 5) have had for a long time.

GitLab for private repos

I see Google cloud is giving 1GB free private repo. Worth checking out

GitLab is looking highly attractive!

It is but remember service speed may be sucky.. i saw some complain about this. Of course if you an organisation u can just host your own GitLab via a droplet on DigitalOcean or likely most will go with the Atlassian solutions tied to it..

Yeah, I think for some developers this does not change a lot. To me Bitbucket is still the place to go for private repo's and Github for public and open source code. Free all round.
