You now what I dont like hearing about, how people keep complaining about our police services. I mean no one ever cuts them any slack. They dont get congratulted for their work only moaned at for not doing it good enough. These cops are underpayed, and treated all round badly. Our cops have the highest suicide rate and death rate of any other police service in the world. So i think we can pat them on the back for sticking in it, even though there work enviroment is worse than fighting in Iraq.

I would agree, especially considering the sick crimes that they are sometimes exposed to. However having said that I think we need to divide them into SAPS and Metro Police. I have sympathy for those in the SAPS, but not those in Metro.

Yeah poor guys... We really need more of them, the more the smaller burden each has to carry.
There was a program about this on SABC yesterday I think... Didn't watch it though, I totally forgot, but the ad alone portrayed enough to let you notice that all is not well.

Well, what about those corrupt bastard cops that pick up the illegals and release them for bribes (also shown on special assignment), or the damn police chief with his "no more directorate of complaints" BS or http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=180&art_id=vn20060607111733394C492613 the failure to help someone that phoned 10111?

Should we go light on them?

And as regards to Metro Cops, I spit on them, they are more criminaly inclined than anyone else it seems (some of them were in that cellphone video of 16yo passed out girl being gangbanged, they assualted that guy that took a picture of them sleeping in their car, there was/is grand nepotism and fraud in the PTA one).

Indeed SSB, I was thinking in the line of those that does their job properly, those who does not should be fired and be given a criminal record.

Our metro police sucks big time! I couldn't agree more with you! Major corruption
and not to mention the whole issue of them handing out speeding tickets in the spirit of raising funds

Hmmm, what about the security guards?

Way I see it, they are at the front-line of attacks - without them ...

I have no sympathy for the SAPS. The service is corrupt and incompetent at its very core. A police service that relies on private armed response? A police force that is unable to respond?

My latest conversation with the highest ranking officer at my local police dept...

Me: Why did you tell Mr X you were unable to issue him with a case number?

Inspector: We do not have a computer. Statements are sent to Durban North SAPS which then issues a case number.

Me: When will the case number be issued by Durban North SAPS?

Inspector: When we send the statement to Durban North SAPS but we do not have a vehicle.

If you do not have a computer and you do not have a vehicle then maybe you do not actually have the ability to provide an emergency service. SAPS members should refuse to accept conditions which prevent them from providing basic services.

Why bother. No thanks. Poorly trained, poorly staffed, poorly equipped.

You can keep it.

i have had two run ins with metro police in JHB and both times the experience was pleasant considering the circumstances. When i drive on the highway i always see them pulling over taxi's or farked up trucks with dangerous or weird loads.

i dont understand why people think they suck because 4 years ago there were no police on the highways and now they are always around and that is a good thing.

then dont cry when you get no sympathy from them.

Well you must live in a part of the country where the SAPS still functions. I do not have the luxury of living in that part of the country. Besides I don't expect sympathy from a police service, I expect competence and professionalism. They fail to provide both of these fundamental requirements. The fact that you think that the SAPS requires sympathy just proves that the police service has lost the plot.

Well they already have armed response. Ag, shame...Maybe they should be issued with body guards next?

I hear that some police station even have their own armed security to protect them.
If they need protection, who are we supposed to turn to for protection?

A gun in hand is better than a cop on the line. (if you can get thru!)

If you live in CT, next time check out the Fish Hoek Police Station. It has a big sign on it saying "Protected by Chubb"

I do have sympathy for the cops who work hard and dont cave in to the throngs of corruption, the enviroment is really crap, but if the damn complacent police officials and our beautiful:p government took sometime to fix up the police force we wouldnt have to worry about thier saftey and thier lives

oh ya where the hell is craigSA on this topic? I thought he would of allready barated this thread with his views! :D

Well don't expect them to be congratulated in here, it won't fit in with the "SA is doomed" crusade.:)

Another thing is that is people are going to put down saps, dont put down the good cops. The ones who actually do a good job to their best ability. Blame the corrupt officials and badly managed stations. Cause without the cops you would be begging even the terrible ones to come back

*what happened to CraigSA?* an interesting question and one that i asked a while back. If he IS indeed using the name Pupa why did he feel the need to change his nick?
Cmon Craigsa, share with us here..... my imagination is as usual runnin wild here... tell me it was some banal reason and i am dramatising it out of proportion as is my wont??
As Craigsa, you had a fair amount of sympathy from me for what it is worth, as pupa? lol no....
