Gizzu GPS300 or Ecoflow River

I created a thread yesterday where I just needed to backup one monitor at the most affordable price. The answer was the Gizzu GPS150 @ R2,700ish .

I see lots of places have no stock ,but Builders have the larger GPS300 @ R5,600ish that I can fetch today. But, then I'm only R1,400ish away from the Ecoflow River which - although I have to place online - just seems a much better unit .

Would you go GPS300 now or order Ecoflow River online at R7,000.00?

The Ecoflow seems to have a higher peak, app controlled, faster charging and can be used inline
 
Purely for the fact that the ecoflow has a UPS function, I would go with that..

I have the GPS 150, which I got while waiting for work to deliver the river pro they got us for staying online during loadshedding..

The GPS 150 was great, but a major schlep to have to plug in and plug out before and after loadshedding..

Which brick n mortar sells Eco - or is it only an online thing?
 
If you have the money then obviously the Ecoflow.
It's a UPS, and charge much faster. Amongst other things.
But almost double the price when I did my homework about a month ago. The Gizzu's increased in price a lot since then.

I see they're running this special because they have River 2 coming out which LiFoPO4 battery and claimed 10 years of use

I used my ecoflow as ups and it packed up after about 4 months. The ecoflow can be used as a ups for short periods (also not for sensitive equipment that will reboot when it switch over as it is not 100% "online", there is a small switching delay - fine for tv but not computers) but in the long run it will kill the battery to charge while on load (after power comes back on) regularly. Plugging it in when needed is a schep but will extend its life

Yea - seems the Gizzu went up and because the special, the Ecoflow went down - so the difference between them wasn't huge . Buying an inverter is such a grudge purchases though :(

Just for my computer monitor (or maybe both)

So what do you suggest ? Unplug it in the evening or something ? No idea how to 'care' for these batteries

PS 3 prong, or will I need an adapter ?

Well 3000 cycle life on LFP vs 500 Cycles on Lith Ion.

Can understand why the price drop, no one would want old unit once LFP drops.

I'm looking for someone that is portable and works inline

Cycle life get measured by SoC
Cycle counted by draining it from full to empty, till only 80% of original capacity exist.

Normally you don't drain to 100% or sometimes 80% is still enough. aka its a measuring stick.

So if you use the device 500x times from fully charged to flat and then recharge fully - 500 times in all - What I want to know is will it be totally dead after those 500 times - or just reduced capacity?
 
This is the model bigger than mine - but I assume they same app


If you check 6m15 - it seems you can get it to discharge to 20% and charge to 80% to preserve battery life .

What exactly failed on yours, do you know?

I've got the River Pro with a regular UPS between it and my PC equipment to handle the switchover, been running great since October. It's permanently in use now but I'm getting a full house backup in January so it was only ever meant to be used for a short while at which point I'll use it more ad-hoc around the house.

I have a Gizzu too and it's not even comparable to the Ecoflow units with regards to the quality. I'm always worried the thing is going to spontaneously combust.

So I made the right choice - makes me feel better ;)

It doesn't have 3 prong plugs, right?

The Ecoflows are excellent imo, just be aware of the battery chemistry and what that means for charge cycles, the River Pro is rated at 800 cycles (to 80% capacity) which you must decide if it's okay for you or not.

I believe the new units they're shipping have SA plugs, but it's specifically mentioned (at least it is on the TA page), mine was still the older unit and came with an adapter.

Another great thing with the Ecoflow vs the Gizzu is charge time, these things charge fast! (if you want them too). This is super useful now especially as the other night we had loadshedding until midnight then it started again at 4am, my Ecoflow was fully charged at that time but other units can definitely struggle here.

That may be with the newer gen models. Edit: I see its the Delta Max. I can set charge level to 80% but there is no option to set discharge level. River Max with latest firmware and app.

I have had mine for a year now and I love it. I use it sparingly though. (BTW River + attachable battery = River Max)
