:mad: This thing has me to the point where I'm ready to use a sledgehammer on this ADSL modem...

One of the ladies at my work have decided to plump for ADSL, and so...

Her ISP is cheetah-is.co.za

No matter what I do, it just won't connect. The line is fine, there is a dial-tone, the ISP have already issued the username and password, so...

Information :

USB ADSL modem GlobespanVirata DSL Modem

Settings :

I have a variety of settings to choose from :

RFC 2364 PPPoATMLLC Encapsulation
RFC 2364 PPPoANull Encapsulation
RFC 2516 PPPoE Encapsulation

VPI = 0
VCI = 88

Modulation is default on Multimode. However, you can choose between TI.413, G.Lite and G.DMT modulation. I have tried them all ... :confused:

However, the modem utility that's bundled with, do show that the modem have synced to the line, and is waiting for the connect command.

When I create a new PPPoE connection, and try to connect with it, it just sits there and eventually after a minute brings up an error message that the remote computer could not be contacted. Gah.

I *hate* crappy USB ADSL modems which just doesn't want to play ball... if this piece of **** have had an Ethernet port in, it was another matter of just plugging in an Ethernet cable and getting it to work...

Anybody having any ideas on what to do (except for using a hammer...)

I want to hear from experienced techies before taking this problem to the ISP themelves.

Anyways... time for retiring to bed with a book ... :p

Regards

TU

VPI and VCI settings is totally wrong for S.A

VPI 8
VCI 35

Use PPPoE and G.Lite

Heyup, thanks Tibs. Will try that. These was the default settings, and I have had no idea as to what these must be. Will try these and let ye know what happened.

Thanks
