With Junk status, investors are suppose to remove their investment from SA.

Don't think this is the reason but surely has a hand in it.

Well Opel was sold to Peugot, so it's buy buy Sparks, Cruzes, Sonics and their own brands I guess. Which kind of sucks as I own a Spark and a Cruze.

Doubt it. GM aren't a financial services business. More likely they are looking at ways to streamline and they're cutting their operations in countries that are the most expensive to operate in terms of labour costs and bureaucracy.

There's going to be a flood of useless "mechanics" entering the market soon.
 
Doubt we will see any new Opel models in SA, sad, as I would have loved to see what the new Astra/Corsa OPC's bring to the table.
 
General Motors has in recent years also ceased or dramatically cut back on operations in places such as Australia, Indonesia and in most parts of Europe. It most recently sold the Opel brand to Peugeot Citroën (PSA).

Why ? Peugeot dealers can only be interested in dealing Opel to increase their volume and footprint !
 
General Motors announce exit from Indian market; to continue exports - May 18, 2017

General Motors Co will stop selling cars in India from the end of this year, drawing a line under two decades of battling in one of the world's most competitive markets where it has less than a one percent share of passenger car sales.

The decision was announced as part of a series of restructuring actions from the Detroit automaker on Thursday, and marks a significant blow to India's strategy of encouraging domestic manufacturing.

Dan Ammann, GM's global president, said the restructuring actions for India announced on Thursday in essence cancels "most" of the plan GM unveiled in 2015 to invest $1 billion in India to deploy newly-designed vehicle architecture as part of a Global Emerging Market vehicle programme or GEM for short, and build a new line of low-cost vehicles in India.

The decisions to significantly scale down GM's operations in India are results of months of analysis over "where we are going to place our bets (globally) as a company," Ammann said in an interview.

Now you can buy a German car (supposedly Opel is German) at a French shop. Like you could buy a German car at a American shop until now (GM).

And sincerely, I'm French and it really wouldn't cross my mind to buy a french car while I can afford a german one... Though I'm all for promoting my country and strongly recommend other people to buy french cars and max up their balloon :crylaugh:
 
Not a fan of the cars but sad nevertheless.
