Hi

I just got capped so can't access any international sites and also am restricted to telkomsa.net and free banking online.

All my email sits on GMAIL. I ca't access this for obvious reasons. Is there a way to access gmail via a local server (like google.co.za; or gmail on local google server??).

If not please help me out somehow,

S

OpenBrowse by Openweb...

You have to pay R60 for it per month, though. It can only sit on top of an IS local-only account, and I think you have to get that from Openweb too.

When you do get access again, you can set your GMail account to forward everything to a local address.

Until then, why not just get 1GB international pre-paid from Webafrica, or something? It's about R70 per GB these days.

Can't help you for this month but I know that Gmail can forward your e-mails to another account. So maybe get a pop account with your ISP and when you see that your bandwidth is running low get Gmail to forward your mail to you ISP? It looks like you have ADSL as well? Maybe get 1 gig of prepaid axxess (www.axxess.co.za) data to tide you over? It rolls over for up to 12 months so you won't lose it?

Get a prepaid account from web africa to tide u over in times like these... R70 for 1gb of international b/w and it never expires, i.e. it rolls over every month.

[edit:] :p general_koffi beat me to it! Also, AFAIK web africa prepaid never expires but I speak under correction.

"Never" is a very long time, but I know that is lasts for months at least.

Thank you all for the swift responses; I will purchase a prepaid gigs as you suggested fro now.

Also, I was told by telkom Internet that I could buy prepaid (that offcourse expire at end of each month) for R64.80 for 1Gig. There are only 7 days remaining in this month, that is a lot f money to part with for now.

BTW: i have telkom ADSL and telkom internet ISP, will purchasing another ISP Gigs be allowed?

Yeah, TelkomInternet doesn't have an issue with that.

Just make sure you know how to switch accounts etc... Not rocket science.

use your cellphione? there is an appication for your cellphone

Yes... that's what I was gonna say... use the gmail app for your cellphone... it's a bit tricky to write long e-mails... but hopefully will only be toward month-end :D

write all your long e-mails at the beginning of the month! ;)

I just get all my gmail forwarded into my pop3 local account. I rarely even go onto the normal gmail any more. It's not a problem at all.

Hi What local email service do you all use that is free and has a reasonable space allocation (like 100MB + at least). This service should allow aliasing using a gmail email address,i.e. send from local email addressing as if sent from gmail adress.

Thanks

Hopefully with Google setting up local server we will be able to access the web interface even when Telkom have put a cap in our ADSL...

When is that happening?

Soon
Google South Africa’s Country Manager Stafford Masie told the MyADSL conference delegates at Vodaworld that Google will establish a local presence before the end of the year.

This means that Google users will be able to access the company's services from local servers which will most likely be hosted in the Internet Solutions data centre.

:D

Ok, I thought I would resurrect this post;
i have been capped again (as you may have gathered already). I wish to access my GMAIL account that is in POP3 mode.

mail2web.com provides a webinterface to access other POP3 using a fetch system. obviously this is on international servers, so is there a local service like this one in SA that will allow me to fetch POP3 accounts?

I have no yet got the axxess prepaid (topup)... till then please help

thanks

if only gmail had a https link...

telkom's internet access once capped allows the banking and most https: sites..

tried and tested... ;)
