Can anybody give me some help on setting up my Gmail account on my N70 please.

I have it set up perfectly, but i have well over 1000 emails in my gmail inbox, and i dont want to download them all to my phone, i just want to start at the new ones in my inbox now, the unread ones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i gather when you say "i have set it up perfectly" ur refering to the settings on your fone?
then setting up gmail is easy as pie:
1)log in to your gmail account
2)click on settings (top right corner)
3)click on the "Forwarding and POP" tab
4)under the "POP Download" settings, select "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on" under option 1. u might also want to select "delete gmails copy" under "When messages are accessed with POP", Option 2. or aternatively just archive them.
5)et voila! if you set up ur fone correctly you should receive all your unread emails next time u access gmail from ur fone. i tried it out from my computer tho. for clarities sake, the settings that should reflect on your fone should be (assuming your gmail addy is [email protected])
-pop server: pop.gmail.com (port 995)
-username: [email protected]
-pop uses secure connection (ssl)
-smtp server: smtp.gmail.com (port 25)
-smtp uses secure conection (tls)

i dont have an n70 so i cant really say where to go to to enter all this info in, but it should be straight forward.
hope this was helpful

Well i did that, EXACTLY that, but when i try to retrieve the new emails, i get an error reffering to "packetted data" or something... :(

does it say anything about "invalid certificate authority" or just the packet data. if its just packet data, does wap work?

No, i got past the "invalid certificate authority" story, and yeah, wap IS enabled :(

Gmail N70 settings

Ola people. How do I set up outgoing gmail on my N70 (vodacom). I have the smtp settings as smtp.gmail.com but can only receive gmail. I can also only set the 993/995. The only other option is 143/110.

Gmail requires pop3 to be set as 995 and smtp as 465

Try this

Mailbox Settings:
Mailbox name: gmail.com
My e-mail address: [email protected]
UserName: [email protected]
Password: ******
Incoming: pop.googlemail.com (note: default is pop.gmail.com) *
Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com
Mailbox type: POP3
Security(ports): On (993/995)
APOP Secure login: Off
Access Point in Use: Internet-GPRS or vLive (or other profile name)

And your phone has to be able to make an SSL connection, hence the different port settings. Presume the N70 can though but you might have to change a setting somewhere.
