So I bought my first tablet, the new iPad. Having never had an apple product I'm slowly getting into it.
Hope you guys don't mind but I'll post some questions so now and then, but I'll try and search before I post :)
Question, I've always accessed Gmail on my PC in my browser and love the fact that I can hide some labels. I've set it to only show when it contains new messages. On the iPad app however, it shows ALL my labels and it's difficult to spot the ones with new mail. Is there a way to hide labels not used often....other than deleting them?
Much appreciated!

Talking to myself

In case someone comes across this, I've managed to overcome this by accessing the Gmail settings in my browser, and on the 'Label' page I 'hide' the labels I don't want to see on my iPad...worked so now I only see the labels I'm interested in and can see when it contains new emails (I use rules to move some mails into those 'folders') etc.
Hope it helps someone :)

I'm not sure I understand you, do you not use the iOS mail app? I use the iOS mail app and usually have it showing my inbox because I have my iCloud, hotmail and gmail email on there.

Hey R13

Sorry sometimes I'm not too clear...let me try again.
I've got a new iPad and have installed the 'Gmail app' for iPad.
Just to give more context... I have lots of labels or folders as it should be called. Most of my mails like my account statements automatically goes into those folders with the help of mail rules. But then I also try and label most of my mails so I have in excess of 20 labels or folders.
On my old Nokia N8 I also use the Gmail Symbian app and it cleverly lets you choose which folders to show, e.g. it shows Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Telkom, Edgars etc.
On my iPad, using the Gmail app and not the iOS mail app, it lists ALL the folders in the left hand menu. I only want it to show those folders I use regularly so when a new mail arrives in them I don't have to scroll down all the way just to check if I have a new Telkom statement for example.
Hope it clears it up a bit?
As I've said, I've found a way to do it. In my web browser (on my PC) I go into the mail settings and click on 'hide' next to the folders I don't want to show on the iPad ...if it makes sense. Now when I open the Gmail app on the iPad, I can see new mail in the Inbox as well as any of my other folders without having to scroll down.
Sorry, quite a mouthful :)

Thanks anyway R13 :)
Another question...sorry like I said it's my first tablet ever, and first apple product too...
Do you use the MyBB app on your iPad?
I installed it this morning and when I clicked on "today's posts' it just list one page but on my PC I see quite a few pages depending on when last I was on the forum. Just asking... I'll play with my new toy a lot tomorrow so might figure out a lot more!

No, I use tapatalk. The myBB vb app is truly horrible.

I don't use the myBB vb based app so I don't even remember what you can see on that thing, I ditched it a long time ago on my iPhone.

Yeah get Tapatalk. I was well impressed with the GMail app for my iPad, I would go as far as to say it's better than the Android version. I was using the standard mail client before that. Nice to see Google investing in iOS development!

Maybe you can answer the OP's question then?

The OP has already found the answer to his question on his own. :)
He has to "hide" the folders under labels in settings, on the Gmail.com website.

If you're using the Gmail app, just swipe left to hide the labels/side menu.

fksing gmail app froze my iPad yesterday, had to reboot it with power button + home button, now I am getting the 'white apple logo of death' screen! need to redo the software on the Ipad, grrr damn Google

Best gmail app so far imo is Mailbox.
