Hi guys. Maybe you guys can give some advice. My Gmail is extremely delayed on my Moto Defy....that is if it comes through at all! It takes hours before it comes through on my phone after the mail was sent. I dont understand it. On my Blackberry it would come through in mere seconds. Aint Gmail supposed to push the mails to my Moto?

I have the mail setup on both the Gmail app, and the secondary email app. I have disabled delivery on the gmail app though thinking it might help...but it does not seem to.

Have you guys experienced this? My phone is set to 2G only to conserve battery. On dual mode it was too heavy on battery....but even when the phone was on 3G, it still would like very long for mails to come through.

What do you guys think?

have you tried accessing international sites on your PC?

I've seen people complaining international is slow - that might effect it.

Also look to see how often your phone is set to receive mail. If set to every hour then mail will only come through every hour.

Its been like this now since I got the phone two weeks ago. :-(

The email app is set to push, if if push aint available to retrieve mail manually every 15 minutes....so dont think it is that. :-(

I'm not a fan of the Gmail app. Why not set up your Gmail through proper Exchange email...? Add it to your list of accounts under the main phone settings menu:
The Gmail Exchange ActiveSync server settings for accessing incoming messages and online folders in an Exchange-enabled email program, cell phone or mobile device are:

Gmail Exchange ActiveSync server address: m.google.com
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync domain: google
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync user name: Your full Gmail address (e.g. [email protected])
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync password: Your Gmail password
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync TLS/SSL required: yes

Ok....I tried that...not sure if I am doing it wrong cause it just says "Login to the account failed, please try again"

I am trying to add it under "Corporate Sync account" in my main settings "Account" section? Is that right? There it asked me for the below info and I filled it in as follows:

Domain/Username: google
Password: Here I put in my google password that I use to log into my gmail
Use secure connection: ticked
Email address: My gmail email address filled in here
Server: m.google.com

Am I doing something wrong?

Nevermind....I put in my email address again for Domain/Username and now it went through. I hope this works better now :-)

Thank you enigma. :-)

Gmail app works great on my HTC desire. Emails get pushed instantly. So it must be something in your setup.

How can that be? In the gmail app you put in your email address and password and thats it. There is no settings you change or do yourself really...so my setup would have been the same as yours I would think?

Have you turned off background sync?

What is that? It seems to be working better now since adding the activesync thingy majiggy as suggested by enigma. Sent a test mail from mybb and it took about a minute to come through....not the previous 2 hour waiting period.

Don't know about Motorola but On HTC phones you go to [Set-up] - [Accounts & Sync] - [Gmail] and have options for background syncing.

Personally I disable Gmail app and use the HTC Mail application to poll every hour

Seems it is a bit different on Moto. On my phone it just says Accounts. There is no syncing...you have to do it via the corp sync function it seems. Anywhoooo...just glad it is working better now. :-)

On my N1, there is the background sync.

also need to set the mail to be synced.
