Hi All,

So a friends Gmail got Hijacked this morning. Unfortunately they don't have 2 factor auth or their phone setup. So they can't get back into account.

The "hijacker" is now sending out requests for cash loans from friends in the chat list.

We have managed to get the guys phone number and banking details, including initials and surname.

Any thoughts on how we can get the account back?

Will we need to make a police case, and will it actually go anywhere?

What other information would be worth trying to get out of this guy?

Regards,
MBruce

I've tried to report a case of fraud to the police and they wouldn't open a case because I hadn't actually "lost" money. I wasn't dumb enough to fall for the fraudster, so no action was taken against him. Whoop whoop.

Got decent information to at least start an investigation, but will also probably go no where.

Ummm...why not.

That's a good question. Guess they will do that now :P

Well if you sit and do nothing it will definitely go nowhere. Asking if it will go somewhere won't help either. The only thing is to actually go to the police station and try open a case.

Sometimes they do take interest if you're lucky and could set up something if you have enough info for them to actually do something.

Pay the guy R5, then you have :-)
