hi

I just wanted to know if there is anybody else out there that's also struggling with gmail's web-mail through a Cybersmart dsl account?

I've got the 384 - oneprice option at Cybersmart

Popping from gmail works like a charm but when I try to log into the web-mail, I keep on getting the error : "Unable to reach Gmail. Please check your internet connection. Trying to reconnect now…"

I went and spent R69 on a axxess 1gig prepaid account just to test if its something wrong with my computer but gmail worked like a charm.

Cybersmart refuses to acknowledge that the problem is theirs, so please let me know if I'm not the only one with this problem.

regards

Ian

I have several Cybersmart Accounts (different locations) and don't have problems. Try changing the address to https in the address bar. You can make that change permanent, by going to the Gmail Settings, Under General, right at the bottom change the Browser Connection to "Always use https" .

Using https makes it even slower, and most of the time it doesnt even want to log in when using https.

I did a ping to www.cybersmart.co.za and i get plus minus 45ms so to my conclusion the connection itself is fine.

https doesn't slow it down, it works just fine like that. I use it like that at several different locations on different pc's and don't have a problem.

try a different web browser and see if it still does that.

i've tried 3 different computers running windows xp / Vista / Ubuntu and different browsers..

I've even tried the basic html view of gmail and it still gives me an error, if i switch to a axxess acount it works like a charm.

i've also tried rebooting my router a few times.

Hi

I also have a delayed response in some international sites like google docs, gmail, google groups and ZOHO. I have a 384 line and a cybersmart account. I never previously had a problem with these sites and now they appear crippled. My ping to local is good but my ping to international is high 500+ms.

In my opinion the sites are not working properly because the connection is slow. And this wasn't a problem until a few months ago.

And the fact that other accounts do better might suggest the ISP. Ian would you be able to post pings with cybersmart and pings with other accounts?

Tommy

I can confirm that I am experiencing the same problem -
poor connectivity to gmail on 384k oneprice account from cybersmart.

Pings to www.google.co.za via cybersmart is fine for browsing plus minus 350ms - 390ms
via axxes its abit faster plus minus 280ms

but i dont think thats the problem.

My gmail page is also timing out since beginning of the month. I am using Openbrowse.

i can trace it fine but it still times out through webmail.

I think this is related to http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=2856897

Given that there are no issues on Vodacom and MTN, indicates an issue on Telkom's ADSL network.... that's if they use different routes for ADSL customers versus their traffic from Vodacom, or leased lines. (given their relationship, I'm assuming Vodacom primarily uses SAIX's network?).

Can anyone report experiences while accessing google via Telkom leased line? (Please post to above thread)
