...uhm...I've got the same problem here...not sure what the problem is ...I can howver confirm that I don't have this problem at all on Nokia 7710 ...:D ...

Same problem. Thought it was the lack of bandwidth. Works better after hrs.

same experience here, i thot the p2p client was doing it, restarted the pc, ran nothing else, still no joy.

bandwidth

Well, it all points to the same thing, bandwidth, or, more precisely, the lack of it. Now, i just wonder, how many users does sentech have in the whole of SA? All of them are at least paying 14400 for a 24 month contract, that is, if all of them were using the 128kbit/s package, sorry, my mistake, the 33-40kbit/s package and we know that is not the case. I just thought the amount of money they make would at least cover the part that makes it all possible, bandwidth. Skyvision is actualy selling 2mbit/s sat for about 24000/month, it may seem a lot to us, users, but for a company that makes millions (or should) this is not a bigdeal. Ofcourse, 2mbit/s is not nearly enough for the users sentech has. So i think they have more, although at the moment, their service really looks like a 2mbit/s service, he he he. Now, what is the ratio they use? in terms of downlink/uplink its allways good policy to have a 3:1 ratio, and if ur rich, 2:1. In terms of bandwidth per user ratio, i have no idea, but it looks like 10kbit/s per user at the moment!

huh oh!

i just decided to go and read a bit of what is on sentech's website, this bit caught my attention:

“The key to BizNet Xpress is in its logical simplicity,” explains Georg Wenhold, product development manager at Sentech. “Working in a manner much like our broadcasting network, a central high-site sitting on the Sentech backbone connects to any number of antennae placed within the business campuses of client companies. Using non-line of site wireless capabilities, the high-site then provides access up to 2Mbps. It can maintain this over physical ranges of up to 20km – more than enough to cover most cities.”

BizNet Xpress operates in the regulated 3.5GHz frequency band, the most commonly licensed band globally, and meets the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) technical standards that are required by the majority of regulatory bodies that license the 3.5GHz band. It uses techniques like dynamic bandwidth allocation, high-order modulation schemes and error correction to maximise spectral efficiency, thereby ensuring that the real data rate delivered to customers is more than 80% of the ‘over-the-air’ data rate."

now, what do they mean by data rate delivered to customers (of BizNet Xpress, of course) is more than 80% of the over-the-air data rate?
This service was launched in 1 November 2005.
I believe they didnt have many customers at first, maybe...they...got...some...now? DRAIIIIINNNN!
lol
maybe im just beeing paranoid!

I have noticed that things like *cough* bittorrent *cough* runs at normal speeds but browsing is up to ****e. Maybe they tried to shape it and it went "horribly wrong"?

I find surfing quite normal. I'm a strong believer in actually WAITING for the site to load (a little!! not too much!)...I mean, surfing is only as fast as you can surf! ...Does anyone understand that? So what if my connection can browse through 10000 sites per second if i can read only one every ten seconds? And sites you know well from previous browsing are already in your cache and shouldnt take too long to load...

erm, and how many seconds do you have to wait before you can read that one site?

heheh :)

I saw a post that google had move to a new server farm and that there were probles with it. Maybe that's the cause?

You are probably referring to their "Big Daddy" cutover recently ... not so much new servers but rather new algorithms to index the web (their new bot for example now understands Javascript and flash files).

The SEO (Search Engine Optimization) folks and link spammers are not too pleased though that they have to learn a new set of tricks.
