So for the first time in a long time I decided to give Gnome3 a try and so far I am pretty impressed. I got bored of Kubuntu and Unity just annoys me (even though I have tried for months to get used to it... without a touch screen its useless).

Gnome3 reminds me a lot of Windows 8... with a bit of Unity infusion. I see they handle the "taskbar" differently and I like it. What are your thoughts on Gnome3?

Been using it on my main dev systems for a year now (since Fedora 17) and am very comfortable with it, probably why Windows 8 doesn't bug me :)

I like it a lot, the dash is less cluttered and more intuitive, but when I tried it, there were still problems with ATI cards that left artefacts all over the screen. There are also some things I love about unity- like the file menus docking into the taskbar to give you more space etc, so I don't know if I will ever switch permanently.

I've got two HD 6950's and for the life of me cannot get both to work with gnome 3. With 2 heads each, either in SLI or non-SLI.

Not with the radeon driver or fglrx. Its either one card and 2 heads or two cards and 1 head each. :(
The radeon driver segfaults when having two screens and more than one card when you specify "Screen 1", and the fglrx driver pukes noting that modesetting is required which is not supported.

Has anyone tried with a two nvidia cards? a Quadro maybe? or a PNY?

Gnome3 in has increased me & my colleagues productivity probably more than 10 fold.

The only thing that annoys me a Gnome3 is the fact that by default the taskbar is at the top.... nothing an extension can't fix though :D

Scratch that, it does work with 4 heads ... just in gnome3 legacy mode
