Gobii IVP Root Part 1

Warning!

I read a post earlier in the year where Iansdale warned against Kingo because it may contain spyware that sends your serial number and IMEI to servers in China.
I researched Vroot and it also has mention.

I downloaded a third party root checker and it does however confirm the device is rooted.

Rather let me run the risk of buggering my pretty little Gobii, then you all jump on the bandwagon and potentially ruin your phone.

I rooted it with trusty ol' MKdroid tools and instructions from Iandale.

But I wamt to know whats next, what happens now since it is rooted what custom things can I do.

Cool im gonna go that route rather.

Warning to Gobii users again!
Dont use Vroot or Kingo!

There is malware on there!

Easiest and most feature rich thing to fiddle with now is xposed framework, might make life usable on those gobii's stuck on 4.2.2

Instal the framework, then there's soooo many modules to install that add different features, cant possibly list it all here, Google is your friend

How does it affect performance Gobii is not known for the best Ram.

*****UPDATE******

I wanted my root and was too tired to do the droid tools thing so i installed Vroot, then removed the crappy Chinese apps, like the supercleaner app, game booster app, shop app and a 'c' with a blue background.
I left Kinguser and installed SuperSU to give that trusted app root access,so it takes charge and no funny business can take place.
I then ran the malwarebytes app, let it scan and let it delete remnants off the other apps keeping my root access, so this seemed to work.
I managed to rid my Gobii of the built in apps, so thats a bonus too.

I still don't recommend users do this because i don't how the badly the phone is compromised.

I probably gave Chinese servers my phone and Imei number.

Usually things work the other way around ... Oh no, I cannot do X- Then you root the sucker to enable you to do X. Telling you that you can do X is kinda pointless as each person has different things that they want to do. Zenthrax wants to fiddle with the framework, I do not. I want to repartition space on my device etc etc while neither you or Zenthrax might want to do that. As mentioned, the list of things you can do would be impossible and impractical to list. In short the list can be compressed down to: Everything.

Rooting/modding Gets old fast though, new phones nowadays can do pretty much everything you need it to compared to the phones from 3-4 years ago

Gobii IVP rooting

UPDATE:- The scatter file and CWM recovery rom files included in my downloads won't work with the latest Gobii IVP's just received by Kalahari. As such I am removing them and will, on request, add instructions here on how to create them.

Hi Iandale
I have a Gobii IVP and would like to root it as it will not use the 32gig storage card

I have folowed your post and steps, but am stuck

I could not find the downloads of the two apps you mention, but they do not have some of the scripts / text files you mention and show in your screen shots.

Do you have a link where I can download please?

PLEASE i need the scatter and a link for a factory ROM as my phone is tweaking since the day i bought it

I need to root this badboy to sort problem with internal storage so please Iandale when you have those scatter files please help us.

---------------------------------------------------

I easily rooted my device and created the scatter file & stock Rom for the latest gobii ivp v1.1

ROOTING:-

with the following easy steps,

How to ROOT the phone first
1. Get the latest -Framaroot apk- here http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps...-root-t2130276 (there are various versions, use v 1.9.2 it works on this device)
2. Download it and install it on the phone, open the Framaroot app on the phone.
3. Let it be on Install SuperSU,there are three exploits (Boromir, Faramir And Barahir) select the last one Barahir
4. Then it should say success root, and now reboot the phone.
5. After reboot the phone should be ROOTED, download -root checker from- the Play store and verify that your rooted.

then your device is rooted and you have su privelages Yay!! :D

now you can install apps that requires rooted devices like link2sd, lucky patcher, titanium backup etc.....

CREATING SCATTER FILE & STOCK ROM: (backup recovery for incase you brick your device playing around with Custom Roms and tweaking device)

you need to follow steps as per Iandales steps.

download all the necessary programs to windows

-Mkt droid tools-

-Sp Flashtools-

-Vcom usb drivers-

NB: you need to install and run -busybox pro v.27- to your device, this will grant access to system/bin/su so that mkt droidtools will verify that your device is rooted already and allow you to make a backup.

NB: On your MTK phone you must in "Developer Options" enable "USB debugging mode".

NB: You also need to install ADBD insecure v.2.0 app to your device in "Developer Options" enable insecure abdb this will allow command from pc.

see below img

Note: you are only doing STEP FOUR of Iandale's guide – (there is no need to root as you have already done that using framaroot) and you are only creating a backup + scatter file for when you need to flash back stock rom at a later stage using SPF tools .

1.Start MTK Droid Tools, and connect your phone with the USB cable to the PC. (if Windows install some drivers, then let it install them automatically).

1. Once it has recognised your phone (Bottom left square color must be green not yellow) click on the “root, backup, recovery” tab

2. Now go to the tap "root, backup, recovery" (in MTK Droid Tools).

3. Click the Backup button, and it will create a complete backup of your ROM. (in the end it will ask, if you want to pack it, just
answer no)

4. When it is finished then also click "To prepare blocks for FlashTool", that will convert the backup to be compatible with
Spflashtool. (choose the files.md5 inside the backup folder)

5. After the backup is done it will be inside "backup" in the MTK Droid Tools folder. And inside it there will also be a new folder called
"!Files_to_FlashTool" Inside there the files for Spflashtool is. So when loading your backup with Spflashtool you must load the
scatter file from inside there.

6. Now to install CWM (clockworkmod recovery) In MTK Droidtools, choose "To use boot from phone" and click the "Recovery and
Boot" button. It will ask you a lot, just say yes every time, and it will end of sending CWM recovery to the phone and reboot into it
on the phone. After you see CWM on the phone you know it is done.

Done!

Now you have stock rom backup & Scatter files to PC

And Cwm recovery on your device.

Have unresponsive Gobii IVP SMT4135-PIA. I seem to need the scatter file from your instructions. How can I create or obtain the scatter file?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian, my Gobii IVP is not switching on but preloader still working. Can I revive it? I have full backup as in your instructions.
Tx Martin
