God does not exist - Judge

the point is being an atheist wouldn't interfere with his work. MOST atheists are religious before they lose their belief, and even i was on my way to becoming a pastor when i stopped and took another direction in life. you either accept peopel on their character instead of their beliefs/race/gender, or you force them to lie to get thru life. people get very touchy when you mention that you're not religious, and as far as i can tell from the article he didn't FORCE anyone to accept his view, which is the live and l;et live attitude.

atheists believe there is no evidence for God, religious people believe that there is overwhelming evidence for God, so let's leave it there :)

The judge is wrong.

Seriously, though: I thought atheists say "There is no proof that God exists" and not "There is no God"? Wouldn't saying "God does not exist" put the burden of proof on the atheist?

the person who brings the topic up is usually the person who has to prove it :) it would seem strange for people to go around and saying "Kthluza'tare doesn't exist", which everyone would probably answer "Sure, okay," and back away slowly.

religion is a widely held belief, so it is something to be against the mainstream. but to assume he'll be a bad judge just becoz he is an atheist si the same as assuming that a muslim judge is going to want everyone beheaded or that a christian judge is going to want drunken teenagers stoned

If the JSC is so hellbent on improving demographics, why invite the guy for interviews?

The religion question is quite frankly not important. What is important is the crappy behavior of the interviewers.

They have to invite him, but the other PDI candidates get preference. He is there, should one of them fall out. ;)

Sure, but "God does not exist" is a statement of fact backed up by no proof.

One does not need to prove a negative statement. That's the point. The burden of proof lies with those who claim he does exist.

I demand proof that there are no unicorns.

Is that reasonable?
