Going from 10MB to 20MB but...

Here is an email response I received after enquiring about switching from a 10MB line to a 20MB line:

"I double checked availability in your area and can see that your local exchange currently allows for a 20Mbps VDSL connection. However the problem though is that your line is connected to a DP (distribution point) which only allows for a connection up to 10Mbps maximum speeds."

What is this DP and how does it "limit" the line speed?

A DP is short for Distribution Point - It is the little (blue box - Presumed because of max 10mbps speeds) at the end of your road around your neighborhood.

If you have a new DSLAM or IMAX unit, A White box at the end of your road, Your DP should be able to support up to 40Mbps.

I know that Telkom can be slack to update the area availability websites which results in incorrect information given when you can go to higher speeds in reality.
