So I owe someone a huge non-financial debt and would like to make one of their dreams come true as a thanks: Going to an F1 race.

I know nothing about arranging this though & presumably some of you clever chaps have been before.

Doesn't need to be a specific circuit - whatever works out best financially to be honest.

I'm guessing its something like:

Flights: 10k
Entrance: 7.5k
Accommodation: 7.5k

Times two so about 50k?

Which circuit would work best (especially i.t.o. flights). Thinking Bahrain since I'm flying in from Europe and other person from ZA.

7.5k to watch a car speed by for a few seconds every couple of minutes?

Watching F1 live is pretty great.

OP, speak to a travel agent. You get complete packages for this sort of thing, including accommodation, transport to the track, etc.

Can I be your friend too?
Friend certainly. Unless you do something that creates "huge non-financial debt" no ticket for you though...

Well that seems to be the going rate for mid range tickets.

Good point. Though will be difficult to find packages that align from both za and eu sides I'd imagine.

I'd say Abu Dhabi. It's just a short drive from Dubai which is well serviced directly from SA and many major European cities on Emirates. So that's easy for both of you but Bahrain would mean connecting flights from Qatar or Dubai.

I went last year on free tickets, but it wasn't sold out so I'd imagine tickets are reasonably priced as most people there are not locals and availability should be good.

Would you not want to include something other than the race in the trip, bit more tourist stuff ? Good opportunity to do so.

How many nights is the accommodation you listed?

ah shot. Yes we can indeed both get to Dubai easily. :)

Just don't do what I did and book seats on the start/finish straight - if it weren't for the big screens I wouldn't have had a clue what was happening. If I were to go again, I'd book on one of the corners.

But yeesh, are tickets R7.5k these days? ...I went 3 or 4 years back to the Melbourne GP and I'm sure it was only something like R2.5k for a seat in the stands and access for the day and those were fairly mid-range tickets IIRC.

This.

Add the obscene amount of noise (unless you thought ahead and brought a good set of ear-plugs with you :p ) and the vomit inducing smell of burning rubber (depending how near you are to the "action", and made much worse in the summer months), that it certainly makes for an "unforgettable" experience. One that I've not particularly wanted to repeat going on for a good few years now.

Spa or Monza.

If your mate's a traditionalist gear head, those are two of the few remaining cathedrals of speed left on the GP circuit... New Silverstone, meh. Monte Carlo, too expensive. Suzuka would be cool, but that's one long haul.

I was a big into F1 (quit watching the borefest it became 4 years ago). I was so chuffed to be able to attend Silverstone GP but having done it once - vowed never to do it again. We didn't know what the heck was happening, the screens sorta helped but not much. It was much more exciting to watch from the couch. What I loved was the noise and speed of those things which the TV never captured that well.

Also managed to get a visit to the Brawn factory two days before Mercedes bought them out - that was a brilliant 4 hours including seeing a whole F1 car 'flat packed' ... Maybe see if you can get that organized if you have mates working with IT suppliers who support F1 teams. The suppliers normally also have their 'events' at the F1 factories. Seemed to be common in England.

Monza
Spa
Silverstone

Not sure if you know much about f1,but basically it's a 3 day event.

Practice 1 and 2 is on friday.

Practice 3 is on saturday with the qualifying following two hours later and the race is sunday.

Porsche cup and gp2 is before the f1 so you you have plenty of racing to watch.

So it's best to look into if you going to make it a 3 day thing or just watch the qualifying and main race,as this will
influence the pricing on which package best suits you.

If you ever attended one you will know it is worth every sent !!!

If you do something like this, make sure to get VIP tickets.

You can go into the pit lane .... and after party :)
