so im going under the knife for the first time, not saying that i like the whole idea of the narcotic side and all very much.

if you have done the knife thing, which one did you take if you had a choice and why since there seems to be 3- totally out, semi out, just area dulled...
 
What choices they give you depends on the type of op. I generally go for total unconsciousness, but my dad prefers a spinal block.
 
depends on the surgery. If you have a vasectomy its local so you're awake. circumsitions are usually either dulled out but they prefer putting you under entirely.

I didn't like that they put the mask on and forced it on me basically. they had to restrain me which was even worse.

usually wake up in a daze not recognizing people you've known for years for a bit. scary feeling. but I guess its fun?
 
Going under is strange. Waking up is even stranger. Good experience to have but not something I would choose to have over and over.

Went in a few years back for a broken clavicle. Totally out, and when I came to, it felt like the worst hangover. Luckily it didn't last long.
 
I've been knocked out twice and had the lumbar punch twice.

Props on being knocked out, just doze off to a blissfull sleep and wake up feeling like nothing ever happened :D

My leg was broken and took the better part of 10 months to heal and I asked if they could knock me out till the leg was completely healed and feed me intrevenously with vitamins and stuff.
Blank stares from all the doctors and nursing staff ensued and my hopes were shattered :o

well its removal of a Hydrocele as for as i can gather, but the urologist is not sure so it has to be removed to see wtf it is. Not very pleasant experience; more in the line of lets not talk about the rubber....

I love the pre-meds. Pethadine 50 FTW !!!!!!

Anyway, just take the complete knock out. When you wake up you won't feel pain still for a few hours after you woke. And you recall nothing. It's a nice sleep also :p

what if i dont knock out ? (thinks back to kun fu training). one question though do they pipe you before knockation or after you are knocked out ?

-im such a ******* baby when it comes to these things....

Everything is done after your out.

They give you nice drugs before, then push you to the Op room where they then put the drip on and no matter how hard you try you will go under :D You get this funny smell and strange taste in your mouth then boom you wake up in recovery :D

i suppose thats why i have to be there so damned early. owell thats my funday next week Tuesday ....

I didn't consider it as a joke.
3 months into surgeries and rehabbing the leg - I just really wanted to be put under and wake up feeling like 5 mins had passed ;)

Pethadine is the amateur stuff - full blown 10mg of morphine - ah sweet!
They wouldn't let me hold onto that either :mad:

A hydrocele testis is the accumulation of fluids around a testicle, and is fairly common. It may be treated surgically. It can occur in infants undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
