Gold is crashing

Why? I live in South Africa and the Rand value is what matters to me as this is a hedge.

no man that's not how finance works, during Zumas wonderful years the ZAR was like R10/$ then he appoints a clown as finance minister and it spikes to R17/$ then ricochets around like a ping pong ball. You can't run around saying, "look I told you gold was the best investment in the world!"

If I ask you how much brent crude is you don't quote the Zim Clown or the Zambian Flip-flop, you would say "it's $80 a barrel"

I never said "Gold was the best investment in the world!" though so cut the strawman nonsense out.

I said that as a hedge based on past performance it is fine.

Personally I'm invested in gold AND local and offshore stocks/ETFs. A varied portfolio aimed at growth and some stuck away as a hedge.

In reality people realized that what can you actually do with it?
People are like the world goes to hell, at least I've got gold? Sure but at the end of the day gold isn't food, water or clothing. People will end up with a barter system before gold
Lol Good luck with the bartering....after WW 3/disaster, whoever is left, will be resort, raping, murdering and pillaging first, water will be a scarcity, unironically water scarcity will likely kick start WW 3, you would have high hopes people would barter from day one.
Most deaths will occur after the war...

Yeah making gold even more worthless

Yeah making gold even more worthless
In fact gold and silver is already a form of bartering, the reason is simple, it has a tangible value during the bartering phase is portable and durable, it wouldn't take long to be introduced, it isn't something that can be easily cheated.

It isn't about the gold or silver as a metal but the value the gold represents, pegging the value to gold and silver in weight just makes trading and bartering easier.

but yeah there will be, raping, pillaging and murdering long before any sort of organized bartering system will come into play.
