I went to the dentist today thinking I could get my gold slit removed (front teeth) because I'm not comfortable with it any more, put it when I was quite young and now im talking to people more often which is also messing with my confidence.

He said that it's close to the nerve and that after its removed there's a good chance i will experience pain and sensitivity and will have to do root canal.

Thing is, I don't want to leave it but I also don't feel like taking this chance.

I don't think there's any other way to hide other than actually removing it.

Can they cap the tooth?

But surely you should have asked the dentist, that knows the various options, what options are available to you.....

I asked him, what are other options.. But he said "no other". Just said there's a good chance there will be issues.

I would never understand why people want to out other things besides food in their mouth...

I wouldn't remove it.

Rather work on getting over the self consciousness.

I was really young, it's like a thing most Indian people do, mind you not all but it's like known and when you young, you don't really consider other things etc. Now I just don't feel like I want it anymore, thinking about my career here.. Talking to people more etc

Just to clarify for folk.
Most Indian people don’t do this. Only those that live in Phoenix, Chatsworth, Shallcross Lenasia South

Also. It’s like a tattoo. When you having it done then think of the future.

He took an xray? If you're prepared to pay I'm guessing there's more options at places specializing in cosmetic dentistry with a host of fancy tech on hand. Local family dentist in his spare room is a different experience to some other places where they're using milling machines to manufacture custom made crowns etc. Some of these outoppie dentists are very oldschool. Try get a second opinion.

To be honest it's more likely that the tooth is decaying under the gold slit hence the dentists warning. No amount of technology is going to make any difference in that case.
