HI

My Golf 3 GTI 2.0l 8v , when the car is off the fuel consumption per 100km will be like 35l per 100km and as i drive the fuel consumption will drop as i drive. the car at the moment is heavy on fuel.

Previously the consumption was 8l per 100km , what can be the cause of this?

Regards

You are looking at the instant fuel

It's normal for the car to start high and average out over time.

It's basically using more fuel while it's cold and takes a good 15 minutes / 5km before it levels out to "normal".

Weird that it gives you a reading while "off" though. I'm guessing you mean when you turn the car to ON but before swinging it? In that case it's probably just showing you a default maximum value and only averages out once it moves. After all if it's just standing still it's doing 0 km and therefore just litres. It's got nothing to divide by as the car isn't moving.

But it also sounds to be like you are looking at the instant fuel economy not the average, but that should go up and down constantly if you touch the throttle and not even out the further you drive.

I'm more surprised that a Golf 3 GTI has instant and average fuel consumption sensors on it, I thought those electronics were reserved for S Class Mercs of that era.

Yeah it is quite surprising...a part of me wonders if OP is looking at fuel economy at all...maybe it's the temperate gauge or something. LOL.
