I am thinking of getting a Golf 5 GTI with under 50k on the clock for the motorplan. Possibly a 2008 although a 2009 would be preferrable. I hope to get it for about 200k to 240k. Has anybody bought a second hand G5 GTI recently, any thoughts/advice?

Would waiting until 2011 make any difference to prices? If it is possible, would it make better sense saving up a larger deposit and getting a G6 GTI?
 
It depends on your finances. Get a G6. If you go the route of a G5 check with SA Warranties for an extended warranty. They fall under the Imperial Group and they had some associations with dealerships selling 2nd hand and offered the extended warranty/motorplan.
 
i was looking for one last year
couldnt find what i was looking for, for the price i wanted to pay
saved some more and got a g6 2 weeks ago and loving it!

If i go for a G6 this year, is it possible to have the car registered in Jan 2011? or perhaps i just need to have patience and wait until 2011 as [Quattro] suggested.
Also wondering what the resale value of a Golf is like compared to say a 120 or 125 BMW?

Does that apply to all "recent" VWs? I was planning to get one, but if thats the case I rather wait a bit longer =P

Not necessarily hey! I own a 2006 model from "the box..." and I drove it for 3000ks before I could really hammer it. Even then, I don't do robot-robot racing. I drive mine fast on open roads. FSH, wheel rotation every 5000ks, etc. It's well maintained. You'd be lucky to have it. :D. All I'm saying is, there are guys out there who treat their cars as "2nd ladies" in their lives... Hope you lucky enough to find a similar one.

i think the motor would be run in
but what about all the other components? brakes, bushes, suspension etc
