Very common problem, especially on the older Polo, Jetta III and Citi.I had the same problem with rain vs my vw polo for the past 4 years, until last night. It turns out that the ignition coil had a microscopic crack under the main lead. So every time the car hit a water puddle, the coil would get wet and the spark would leak killing the engine.
More often the problem would last a few minutes and then disappear, until the next water puddle. Many trips to the service technicians brought no relief. The solution is the either, replace the ignition coil if it stop working completely (scrap yards not recommended), or invest in epoxy resin, find the crack, fill it and give the coil new coat, allow it too cure properly, usually over hours just to be safe.
I hope this helps others with a similar problem. Cracked spark plug leads can also give the same symptoms.

A first post necro to boot. This guy is epic.

I liked it. To be honest it reminds me of the amount of Corsa Lites I see with problems - not just on rainy days. You can add some Midges and Unos to the list.Nice necro![]()

The thing is, old cars that were built past their sell-by date just to make a quick buck from the locals tend to break down after a decade - it is not just the Citi.
Blasphemy! How dare you sir! This has never happened, it's science.I've seen Toyotas and Mazda's overheat on sunny days,

And then rolls down a sand dune breaking in half.....

The lady or the car?The one with no issues thus far is a female driver who has only had the car for a couple of months. (probably already had some surgery done)
That had lots to do with it sureI think generally you'll find that has more to do with a certain individual shouting "power!" every time an obstacle presents itself.![]()
