Anyone have an idea on a good 1000w psu for under +/- R2500?

Me favourite is the coolermaster real power ones.

Other folks might mention the enermax, antec models, but me stick by my CM models.

Personally , I am heading towards the 1250w for my new setup.

I have had the 700w modular, 1000w.

Do you really need 1000w?? I would go for a 750 pc power and cooling or 750w corsair unless you really need 1kw power.

What could you possablilly have that would use 1Kw of power?

I would only buy Enermax or Seasonic if I'm spending that much anyway.

I've had a Enermax 400W for almost 8 years now, the most reliable PSU I've ever owned, it's quiet and hasn't had a days trouble since the day I put it in.

Err..Future proofing?Lol,no really, this is what im looking at:

2 x 500 gig hd's (+my existing 160 gig)
coolermaster "HAF" chasis
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
DVD writer
8 Gigs of DDR2-??? ram (still deciding what best suits my mobo)
Soundcard (whatever card is replacing the Asus xonar...)
& ofcoarse a PSU that will run all of this...

Current mobo(Asus p5b) & cpu (E6400) will remain unchanged

Your help, feedback, criticsm & advice will be highly appreciated

This upgrade will probably happen over the next year

A decent 450watt PSU would run that easily.

Wow, PSUs are overrated!

Err, yeah, send your repair bill to PostmanPot when the PSU kills the graphics cards.

But 1kW is a bit much.

I jumped into this a bit late, but what PostmanPot says is completelew true! Why, oh why, would you waste R2.5k on such a PSU, when you can spend +/- R1k on a very good 500/600W one.

I think 500W would be perfectly sufficient, but as their power output does from over time, you could get a 600W one too. I'd recommend an Antec or Corsair. The Antec NeoPower's are good and quiet, and iirc come in 500W and 600W models.

Had the CoolerMaster 1250 Real Power Pro and the fan died after 1 week.

Just my frigg'in luck. Started making a high pitched screaming noise. And a fair bit of heat. Case temps rising caused me to investigate. Fan stopped moving after about 10 minutes after booting.

Anyhow...

Exchanged it at ComputersOnly for a modular AeroCool 1020w and it's been super quiet and doing the job nicely.
