Can anyone recommend anything? I don't mind paying, but I want it to be user friendly.

Basically I just want to mix some video footage with audio, maybe some text, a few zoom effects etc.

If it's not user friendly it could come with a guide or something. I could start self educating.

Thanks guys!

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker? Gets the job done for the basic kind of stuff you mention plus free.

You could also try OpenShot. It's free and available for Windows, Mac and Ubuntu.

As a person who has played about with clips here and there I agree Adobe Premiere is abit of an overkill but it is what you aim for if you want to go into this on a proffesional level or into it on a serious note. Windows movie maker is abit too simple but just perfect for starting out. As far as i now it doesnt come standard with windows anymore however you can download it off the net and its free and small and light on resources. Blender is complex as well. The one software I would suggest is an oldie called Corel Video Studio. It will be light on whichever resources you use on. Older iterations of it even runs on xp. It is not complex to understand and easy to get into. But yea try out WWM as a start then corel video studio and you can move on to the next biggest and baddest.
