Hi

So I have a ****ty PC and can't properly run many games. I didn't care about PC gaming before but now that I am interested in it I have no idea what to buy. There are so many options and so many things to take into account that I don't even know where to begin.

So what I am asking is for a good gaming pc that isn't going to cost me more than a car. I don't want to play new games like BF4 or NFS rivals but I do want a decent one. The main game I want to run properly is Warframe and maybe Tribes ascend as they seem like cool games.

I don't want to build my own as I up until recently I though a PSU was an accessory for PS3. So maybe ou can give me a link or tell me what to ask the guys at Matrix warehouse...

Any help will be appreciated.

So welcome to the interesting world of PC gadetry.

There are alot of places out there that will give you the shell of what you need for a pretty good price - case, power supply unit, motherboard, ram, processor, and graphics card...and then you can bolt on the rest - cd drive, hard drives, etc. Check out the Computermania online brochure for some ideas.

Otherwise today a resonable guide is:
- an i5 processor (you dont need to get the overclockable versions because that doesnt seem to be what you need). +- R2.5k
- 4gigs (maybe 8 if you can afford it) of RAM - 8gb of Kingston Hyper X 'gaming RAM' would be around R1k-1.5k depending on where you can find it, maybe cheaper
- The single most important piece of kit will be your graphics card - a GTX 650 is pretty good, and reasonably priced as well for the budget market. Good bang for the buck at around R1.8-R2.1k
- Motherboard. There are plenty of variations and options. I dont have one but I've been looking at ASRock motherboards and they SEEM to get pretty good reviews. Budget around R1.4k for that.

So that's around R7,400 for more-than-entry-level that should play all your games plus the likes of BF4 and should keep you reasonably able to play games for a while into the future.

Hopefully you can re-use your PSU, chassis, screen, keyboard, mouse, Hard disk, operating system, cd-rom drive etc. so you dont need to worry about buying those new.

That's a tad out of my budget. Looking for a PC capable of playing maybe COD black ops1 at say medium settings. Not gonna be doing a lot of gaming just now and then when I am bored.

My budget would be around maybe R5k or lower, is that too low for what I am asking for?

PS: My current graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 5450. Should I upgrade it or will it do?

Edit: Found this pc and it seems good, any ideas as to whether I should take it:

This one has a good Cpu and a great price, yeah I know I sound like a cheapo:)

If I buy any of these will I be able to install my current graphics card?

Those Matrix PC's are junk to say the least.
I mean, who pairs a high end Core i7 CPU with only 2GB of RAM and a cheap motherboard!
At least the guys at evetech.co.za have decent builds to choose from.

What is your current system specs?

Your HD5450 will need to be replaced if you want to play modern games.

Perhaps you should look for 2nd-hand equipment at like Carbonite.co.za if your whole current rig is outdated.

Where are you situated? There are some good walk-in shops around the country besides Matrix and Incredible.

About 10 minutes away from Cresta in jhb.

On evetech(thanks pada) I found these pc's that seem good but I don't know if they are:)

My heart is telling me to take the quad core gamer but my wallet is screaming for the dual core power pc. So which one should I take to play warframe and high settings with 60fps?

Bear in mind with those PC's that you're going to have to add another HDD to the setup as they've only got 64GB SSD's, but that dual core one is fairly useless in the long run.

The basic gamer will probably suite but what I'm noticing with those builds is that they'r putting way too much emphasis on the CPU and neglecting the GFX, it'll be better for you to build your own...

I'd love to but up until recently I thought a PSU was an accessory for a PlayStation so I am pretty much doomed if I try that.
Are those graphics cards really that crap? Reckon they are worse than mine?

I was in the same predicament as you are a few years back. I started with a 2nd gen Core i5 PC like the one in the link below, and I changed the case, added more RAM and added a GPU.

http://www.guzzle.co.za/specials/catalogue/4883/#view=single&page=1

In this case, you just need to add a GPU if you can find a PC shop that will give you a similar spec machine for a similar price but just with a decent GPU like a Radeon 260X or Geforce 750ti :)

They're not crap but way too much cash is going into those processors, rather drop the spec of the processor and up the GFX a bit... If you give us a firm budget then it'll be fairly simple to source the components for you and I'm just down the road from you and will take me 30min to put it all together.

GTX 650 is going for 1.6k. GTX 750 R2k. GTX 750Ti R2.6k. So there is quite a difference.

OP: You can send your budget to Wootware, Rebeltech and Syberatic. Then ask them for a prebuilt PC with a mild gaming intention. Guaranteed they will offer you something better than Evetech and Matrix. That's the way I'll go if I were you.

Actually, if I were you I'll challenge myself to learn the "inners" of a PC and build it myself. That way you get 50% of the PC fun (other 50% being playing on it) and have a celebration beer to award yourself. And it will be a bit cheaper (by a bit I mean R100 or R150)....

Wootware have them for 2.2k now, very good deal http://www.wootware.co.za/msi-n750t...b-128bit-pci-e-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html
