Yeah she tried that. Wouldn't boot up - the only confusing bit is what she said about the mobo light: with my PSU connected to her mobo, the mobo light is steady, but with her PSU connected to her mobo the mobo light flashes. Why is that?

Have you tried booting the PC with the bare minimum components?

CPU
HDD
1 stick ram
GPU

What mobo is it?

Did it turn on and post, or just power up with a blank screen?

asus pq5 pro and it doesn't do **** - doesn't turn on, doesn't power up - mobo light goes on tho

Most mobos have a set of jumper pins for this. Refer to your mobo manual for it's location.

Changing the jumper settings did not help.
Okay revision time:

a) my psu + my mobo = flashing light + no boot/power/nada
b) bco's psu + my mobo = stable light + no boot/power/nada
c) bco's mobo + my psu = stable light + boot/post/working just fine

so...if there is an overcurrent on the standby bus where is it coming from? If it was coming from my psu then it should not work on bco's setup. If it was a faulty usb socket then there shouldn't be a stable light when I use his psu on my mobo.
I am so confused.
It can't be the cpu because there would be some powering up and then mad beeping but nothing happens when trying to boot.
I'm assuming that the +5vdc power connector comes bundled in the 24 connector pin not the +12v connector but this is the only difference between bco's and my psu (besides 100w) - he has a 4 pin connector and i have an 8.
