If I understand this correctly this will only work with phones that comes with Lollipop installed oout of the box.If you update from KitKat you are out of luck.

Not sure if you are right. I understood that Lollipop offers the opportunity to operators to install their bloat with updates once the sim is recognised, but that you would be able to uninstall it if you want to, irrespective if the phone comes with lollipop of not

EDIT: And that this happens from a fresh install which lollipop requires. So during the setup process, the moment you have connectivity (wifi?) with a sim installed, lollipop will recognise the sim and push the bloat. They also said that if there are updates from the firmware version you install, that Lollipop will push them too.
